The World of Darkness has been part of our lives for 35 years, and we have the characters, friendships, costumes, photos, and questionable decisions to prove it.

This Month of Darkness we prepared four prompts that highlight those special moments in your World of Darkness journey. Bonus points if you still have the photos.

⚫️WEEK 1: WHERE DID YOUR STORY BEGIN?
Tell us about your first World of Darkness character, your first LARP, or the moment you realized: “Oh. I’m going to be doing this for a while.”

⚫️WEEK 2: THE CHARACTER YOU NEVER FORGOT
Introduce us to the character you’ll never forget. Who were they, and why are you still thinking about them?

⚫️WEEK 3: YOU HAD TO BE THERE
What’s your “you had to be there” LARP or Tabletop story? You know, the one that everyone still talks about, or moment the entire room went silent.

⚫️WEEK 4: THEN & NOW
Some of us discovered these games last month, and some of us have been playing them for 35 years. Whatever it may be, show us your World of Darkness Then & Now.

Tonight's vampiresnvino: 🦇 The Lesser Dead by Christopher Buehlman. The author of Between Two Fires gives us this unusual and haunting vampire story set in 1978 New York City, a place dangerous for both the living and the undead. We follow the situation of Joey Peacock, a vampire of four decades, from his subway tunnel haven to the disco dance floor. We learn his feeding habits, the rules he must play by, and how he survives. If you like your vampires gritty and bloody, read this. 🍷 Paired with Pessimist, one of my favorite mid-shelf, go-to wines. It's a bold, full-bodied Paso Robles red blend, with an approachable, fruit-forward style. You'll get aromas of blueberry and black plum overlaying cocoa and leather. The finish is smooth and silky. Pair with grilled meats and vegetables, barbeque, or stalking the midnight streets in the big city.

Tonight's vampiresnvino: 🦇 Between Two Fires by Christopher Buehlman. This is nothing short of a masterpiece of dark medieval horror. Set in 1348 France at the height of the Black Death, the story follows a disgraced, excommunicated knight who escorts an enigmatic, angelic orphan across a plague-ravaged, demon-infested landscape. And it is nightmare fuel for the upcoming D&D / VTM Bound By Blood actual play at GenCon in two weeks. 🍷 Paired with a 2021 Ringland Barbossa Shiraz. What we've got here is a solid medium-bodied wine with ripe, generous flavors of mulberry and mocha. It's lively on the palate with a smooth but bittersweet cocoa powder finish. It's a great example of minimal intervention winemaking; this particular wine punches far above its modest mid-shelf price tag. You won't be sorry.

Proud to announce that our interview with Jason Carl @vampiresnvino will drop this Friday at 10am EST. If you like or play roleplaying games, you more than likely have encountered something that Jason has influenced, wrote, or has his DNA in. His body of work is pretty impeccable. My hope is that you’ll see more of Jason on this page, as there is so much overlap between his work with @dndinacastle and what @kellyjonesmcmanus @pacificskygames @mikecanterino @nuklearangel are doing ourselves- especially Mike and I as we teach courses on game design/gaming at our respective schools. I hope you like the episode! Kelly and I will more than likely record a “part 2” once we line up all our schedules- maybe with some special guests, Jason?

This year at GenCon, I’m returning to Vampire: The Masquerade live storytelling.

The year is 1350. The place is Prague. And in a world lit only by fire, all is not well.

Wizards of the Coast and White Wolf have graciously invited me to create and lead BONES OF THE EMPIRE, an official Vampire actual-play one-shot based on Bound by Blood, the new Dungeons & Dragons / Vampire: The Masquerade supplement from Ghostfire Gaming.

Made in partnership with Dungeons & Dragons, Bones of the Empire takes place on their stage Friday, July 31 at 8 PM ET.

Watch it live in person, or join us online to watch the official Gen Con livestream of the show. Tickets to the live show are free and are available on the GenCon website.

The coterie of Cainites who will stalk the Dark Medieval with me is nothing short of stellar:

Ginny Di

Zach the Bold

Persephone Valentine

Lua Stardust

We’ll be telling a story of dark medieval horror, ancient conspiracies, monstrous sorcery, and the terrible things vampires create when they convince themselves that the ends justify the means, all through the rules of Dungeons & Dragons.
