Vana Liya’s new single featuring The Movement blends roots reggae with spacious modern production from longtime collaborator Johnny Cosmic, offering another look at the sound taking shape on Liya’s forthcoming sophomore album, due in 2027.

Built around warm ukulele and keyboard, lush vocals and layers of wide-ranging percussion, “New Light” finds Liya and The Movement’s Josh Swain balancing two distinct voices without losing the song’s laid-back feel.

The track originally began during a writing session on a porch in Ocean Beach, inspired in part by Spanish guitar.

“The song itself is about the duality of life. Life can be day and night,” Liya previously told The Pier. “It’s about conquering the dark with the light. As long as you have the light, it will take over the dark.”

“New Light” and previously released “Carry On” are both set to appear on Liya’s next record, with more collaborations still to come.

I ruined my favorite boots for this shot but it was worth it. @murdymedia is the best because he goes with the motion of the waves (literally)

Truly not sure where I’d be without @naluhealingarts. These session are a huge part of how I maintain my voice. I struggle with a muscle condition in my neck and tongue, and these treatments are what bring me real relief from the tension. So grateful for the care and healing @nalu.tribe and her team provide. 💜

If you’re in San Diego, I can’t recommend them enough. Even if you’re not in San Diego, it’s worth the drive. Each practitioner will go above and beyond for you. Also, check out the events they have in their salt room - it’s pure magic ✨
