In their piece “Monumental Resistance: Stonewall” artist Lorenzo Triburgo stands for 24 hours in front of Stonewall National Monument, commonly regarded as the birthplace of the American LGBT Civil Rights Movement. This durational piece captures queer and trans resistance as Lorenzo stands with their visible genderqueer body exposed to the waist.

Last weekend to catch Shimmer Shimmer in the Bronx AIM Biennial! As the show closes, I want to express my immense gratitude to @eileenj8 for curating such a beautiful show, to the entire @aimbxma team, and to my cohort. I meant what I said on opening night..."I was in the 2020 cohort
in the winter 2020 cohort.
So we started in
January of 2020.
And you know, when
March 2020 happened,
what became abundantly clear
to me is that the
people in my cohort -
the people who were selected by
this program to be in the cohort -
had an understanding
of what it means to be a
contributing member
of a community.
Right. We throw that word, "community" around
all the time, but,
like, really, everyone
showed up for each other.
We... we were on Zoom,
I think, like,
60 hours a week with each other,
and I don't think I could have
gotten through that year -
I don't think I could
have dealt with my pain,
my fear, or my rage
without you all.
I sincerely love you,
and I love our WhatsApp thread,
And Um, to me, you know,
in addition to learning
about copyright law
and the best way to file
taxes and, I don't
know, write a grant!
What became abundantly clear to me
is that the only way to have
a sustainable
practice is to have
a community who shows
up and who cares.
So thank you all for
being that - then and now. Love you.

four years ago i started hrt. during these four years, trans people have been at the center of fear mongering, political warfare, and misinformation. entering the fourth year of my transition, trans people are at the early stages of a genocide and are being labeled as a terrorist organization. a large contribution to the targeted legislation and violence towards trans people has been misinformation in the media through “notable” news outlets, where trans issues make up a high volume of headlines. one of the greatest offenders is the new york times, what is considered one of the most influential and respected newspapers in the united states.

in the last four years nyt has published poor and damaging coverage of transgender issues, so much so, hundreds of current and former contributors to the publication signed an open letter opposing it. the articles they’ve published have used derogatory terms, misrepresented multiple medical experts and scientists, and represented journalists who almost exclusively follow anti-trans sources and groups. nyt has also been actively cited in anti-trans legislation hearings despite the crucial errors in its reporting.

it’s only apt to share this during pride month. i covered my body with excerpts from these headlines to take back the words used in the media to harm me and my community and gave them new authorship, authorship from an actual trans person. no longer are these headlines a means of shoddy reporting that have dire effects but an expression of bodily autonomy and taking back power. sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me no longer applies here. words are powerful and in the wrong hands can destroy people’s lives. but even through my tabloid tears and paper cuts, i stand proud as a trans woman in nyc. happy pride

Coasting Up To Heaven is the first of many releases to come. It is the endless sea of what your life could be. It is trying again and again, even tho life keeps getting harder as you get older.

As the world hardens all around us, let my soft era begin. Let soft and ethereal be a reminder that there is power in the magical, the surreal, the sensual. Let the memories of being punished for being soft fade away. Let the hard shell of my experiences crack. Let my soft heart open again from ego death.

Wherever the wind has taken you in life, know that there are new people, opportunities, and possibilities still ahead of you if you so need them. All you have to do is let go.

With support from the Creative Capital State of the Art Prize, we will bring The Greatest Love across Iowa and throughout the midwest. Thank you @creative_capital In February 2025, Iowa became the first state to rescind civil rights from a formerly protected class. Trans* people no longer have protection against discrimination in employment, wages, public accommodations, housing, education, credit practices, healthcare or other basic living needs. The largest protest in the history of Iowa ensued. To add our voices in protest we sang Whitney’s The Greatest Love of All outside the Iowa State Capitol for hours. With Whitney as our guide, we are setting out across the state with new friends, accomplices, comrades and everyone with a voice to create sites of political activation through (anti-assimilationist) queer joy. Stay tuned and join us!
