He’s tortured a tenor, blackmailed a soprano, and he hopes you hate him by the final curtain.

Baritone Gregory Dahl is back on Inside Vancouver Opera. He talks about playing Scarpia, opera’s most charming villain, and why the angriest moments call for the most relaxation. He also shares the 85% rule that changed his singing, and the advice his mother gave him in a Winnipeg church choir that he still carries on stage.

Swipe for some of our favourite moments. ➡️

Hear how Gregory Dahl makes villainy sound beautiful,
and what his mother told him about nerves.
