What an incredible night for The Vanderbilt Neurology Society! The VMAA was proud to support this group with an alumni reception at the AAN Annual Meeting in Chicago. An amazing turnout for this newly formed society, and a great time was had by all! by @vandymedalum

It is with bittersweetness that we announce that after nearly two decades, President and Chief Executive Officer of Vanderbilt Health and Dean of Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, Jeff Balser, MD, PhD, will retire from both leadership roles on December 31.

Dean Balser’s announcement culminates a career-long journey that began at Vanderbilt in the mid-1980s as a an MSTP student as VUSM. In 2008, Dean Balser became the 12th Dean of Vanderbilt University School of Medicine since the school’s founding in 1875. Pivotal to Vanderbilt Health’s explosive growth was the effort Dean Balser led with Vanderbilt University leadership during 2015-2016 to legally and financially separate Vanderbilt Health from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, allowing for expanded opportunity while still maintaining close ties between the two institutions that continue to fuel academic excellence and scientific discoveries.

We are deeply grateful for the transformative impact Dean Balser has made over the past 18 years as dean of VUSM. His legacy is marked by tireless advocacy for world-class medical education and unwavering support for generations of learners who will shape the future of medicine.

Welcome to New York, Vanderbilt University! The VMAA hosted a Medical Alumni Brunch on Sunday to introduce our NYC area medical alumni to the beautiful new NYC campus in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan, on a historic site it will lease from the beautiful General Theological Seminary. The 2.7-acre site, secured through a 99-year lease, will host academic initiatives like “study-away” programs and master’s degrees, along with non-academic programs. We had a wonderful turnout from our medical alumni community in NYC, and guests were treated to a delicious brunch, along with a state of the school talk from Senior Associate Dean of Medical Student and Alumni Affairs, Dr. Amy Fleming, and an exciting update on our NYC campus from Assistant Vice Chancellor for Strategic Initiatives, James Kellerhouse. After the brunch, our alumni guests were able to tour the new campus and it was so exciting to hear about the future plans for connecting Vanderbilt to the NYC community. We’re looking forward to connecting our alums to the upcoming exciting events happening at Vanderbilt University- New York City! #vanderbiltmedicalschool #vanderbiltnewyork #vandynyc #vumedicine by @vandymedalum

Yesterday marked an important moment in VUMC/VUSM history: The 100th anniversary of our 21st Avenue campus! Opening in 1925, what we now call Medical Center North has acted as the foundation for the bustling center of medical innovation and training Vanderbilt is known for today. A huge thank you to @NewsChannel5 for highlighting this milestone during last night's broadcast. Read the full story at the link in our bio! by @vandymedalum

Vanderbilt Residents Night Out! by @vandymedalum

This year, 96 students from 24 states and 4 countries took part in VUSM's White Coat Ceremony, the first step on their journey to becoming physicians.

This event would not be possible without the generous gifts contributed to the Vanderbilt White Coat Fund, which helps fund a number of time-honored traditions for our students throughout their medical school journey including attendance at national conferences, Class Day, Commencement, Match Day, and of course, the White Coat Ceremony.

We deeply thank our generous White Coat Fund donors for giving students defining experiences like this and invite others to join in giving at the link in our bio by @vandymedalum
