We can all keep the little flame alive, as we join our voices and march together in peace.

Thank you @carsieblanton for leading us, and reminding us of our collective power.

"The Little Flame"
Words and music by Carsie Blanton

A cotton field, a silver mine
Johannesburg to Palestine
Broken treaties, dreams deprived
We kept the little flame alive

Bobby Seale to Bobby Sands
A picket held in frozen hands
Prison cells, freedom rides
To keep the little flame alive

A hundred years, a hundred more
We throw our weight against the door
Even if we don’t survive
We keep the little flame alive

Ford the river, cross the sea
A slave, a rat, a refugee
Strap the child to your side
Keep the little flame alive

Ho, Guevara, Connolly
We hid them in the scullery
Secrets whispered by the wives
Kept the little flame alive

A hundred years, a hundred more
We throw our weight against the door
Even if we don’t survive
We keep the little flame alive

Faye, Dolores, Bernadine
Table grapes and gasoline
Homemade rifles, kitchen knives
Kept the little flame alive

Warsaw, Tulsa, Wounded Knee
They buried us, but we were seeds
Singing from the grave, we rise
To keep the little flame alive

A hundred years, a hundred more
We throw our weight against the door
Even if we don’t survive
We keep the little flame alive

Remember when they shot Joe Hill?
He spoke his last and final will
Good luck to all of you, don’t cry
But keep the little flame alive

How to hold so much joy for all that I am a part of, and the true exhaustion that comes from trying to “do it all”
As a single mama, a musician, a nonprofit leader, and a community advocate, I stay really busy. I wake at dawn to feed my kids, get them to school, run to morning meetings, shoot videos, record radio interviews, and more. It’s a joy, an honor, and…exhausting. I just want to share this side as I hear over and over again how great it appears, but the side no one sees is the behind the scenes juggling act of solo motherhood. So I write it to get a huge hug from all those I love who hold me up and keep encouraging me. THANK YOU to my community who lets me be exhausted and elated all at the same time.

Has a super lovely time this evening in Lockhart! Went on the radio (you can go listen to the show for another 2 weeks) and then got a tattoo…found out that the owner Bobby and I both went to the same high school and played some of the same stages in San Antonio! I’m so excited to spend the weekend in Lockhart for the @texaswomensongwritersfestival ❤️‍🔥🔥 See you there!

Don’t you love when you just stumble upon a friend…especially one about to leave town? And there is a GREAT band playing? And you just left a gathering of great friends and literally on the way to another, getting groceries? Okay. THIS IS WHY I LOVE AUSTIN! And my music family!
