🎙️ DAVE AND I CONTINUE TO UNPACK THE ANN MARIE ALLISON EPISODE!

What happens when a narcissist manipulates the couples therapist, too?

In this clip from Narcissistic Abuse with Vanessa Reiser, Dave and I discuss the ethical complexities of couples therapy when narcissistic abuse and coercive control are present.

The abuser may appear charming and reasonable, while the victim seems anxious, reactive, or dysregulated. Without understanding abuse dynamics, clinicians can unintentionally reinforce the very harm they’re supposed to address.

Abuse isn’t a communication problem. It’s a power and control problem.

Recognizing the difference can be the first step toward reclaiming safety, autonomy, and freedom.

🎙️ DAVE AND I CONTINUE TO UNPACK THE ANN MARIE ALLISON EPISODE
Sometimes the voice telling you to leave isn’t a scream. It’s a whisper.
In this clip from Narcissistic Abuse with Vanessa Reiser, Dave and I continue unpacking my conversation with Ann Marie Allison, and I share something deeply personal about my own experience escaping narcissistic abuse.
There were little whispers along the way. Moments when something inside me was telling me to get out. To leave. To save myself.
And then there was one whisper that I finally listened to.
GO. NOW. FLEE.
I remember recognizing a window of opportunity because my abuser was high on marijuana. Based on my experience with him, I believed he would be calmer and less dangerous in that moment.
So I left.
That was not luck. That was survival. That was my nervous system assessing danger, recognizing patterns, and identifying what I believed was the safest opportunity to escape.
People often ask survivors, “Why didn’t you just leave?”
What they don’t understand is that leaving an abusive relationship can be one of the most dangerous moments. Survivors are constantly calculating risk, anticipating reactions, and looking for an opportunity to get out safely.
Sometimes survival means listening to the quietest voice inside you when everything around you is telling you to stay.
And sometimes that whisper saves your life.

🎙️ DAVE AND I UNPACK THE @reelannmarieallison EPISODE
In this clip from Narcissistic Abuse with Vanessa Reiser, Dave and I talk about a truth that can be incredibly difficult to accept when you are trying to leave a narcissistic relationship:
You can get away the hard way, or the hard way.
There is no easy way out.
You can leave today and face the grief, fear, uncertainty, withdrawal, rebuilding, and discomfort that come with breaking a trauma bond.
Or you can leave years from now and face many of those same things, after giving the relationship even more of your time, energy, peace, and life.
That does not mean leaving is simple. It isn’t. People stay for complicated reasons, including children, finances, fear, culture, isolation, trauma bonding, and coercive control.
But waiting does not necessarily make the exit easier.
Sometimes the choice is not between hard and easy.
It is between hard now and hard later.
And time is one thing we never get back.

🎙️ NEW EPISODE ALERT!

Dave and I are back breaking down my conversation with @reelannmarieallison the producer of @youredatinganarcissistmovie 🎬

We dig into how to tell a story that captures the REAL weight and danger of narcissistic abuse without making it seem like a Hollywood thriller about a serial killer.

Because the truth is, abuse doesn’t always look terrifying. Sometimes it looks like the perfect partner, the charming personality, or the person everyone else thinks is wonderful. Behind closed doors, the reality can be entirely different.

That’s why representation matters. We need films that show the seriousness of this kind of abuse, help people recognize the red flags, and expose the manipulation that can keep someone stuck in a toxic relationship. ❤️‍🩹

🎙️ NEW EPISODE DROPPING TODAY!

Dave and I are back unpacking my conversation with @reelannmarieallison the producer of @youredatinganarcissistmovie 🎬

We talk about something so important: how do you make a movie that is HEAVY enough to shine a light on the very real dangers of narcissistic abuse without turning it into a movie about a serial killer?

Because narcissistic abuse doesn’t always look like something out of a horror movie. It can look charming, loving, successful, and completely normal from the outside. And that’s exactly what makes it so dangerous.

We need stories that help people recognize the red flags, understand the psychological manipulation, and see the danger BEFORE they’re trapped in it.

This conversation is about storytelling, awareness, and why getting narcissistic abuse right matters so much. ❤️‍🩹

🎙️ ANN MARIE ALLISON ON NARCISSISTIC ABUSE WITH VANESSA REISER
In this clip from my conversation with @reelannmarieallison producer of @youredatinganarcissistmovie we talk about one of the most unsettling parts of healing from narcissistic abuse.
You are not just grieving the relationship.
You are grieving what you believed about people.
You may be realizing, sometimes for the first time, that there are people in the world who can lie, manipulate, exploit, and hurt others with very little empathy or remorse.
That realization can be chilling.
For survivors, part of the trauma is not only what happened inside the relationship. It is the collapse of your assumptions about human behavior, trust, safety, and what you thought other people were capable of.
And that is a different kind of grief.
Healing means rebuilding your ability to trust yourself, recognize patterns, and understand that seeing the darkness more clearly does not mean you have to live in fear of it.
