Duffy and I committed to a lifetime together and I feel so damn lucky!!!!! I am OBSESSED with this man, I tell you 🥹

In honor of this special moment, a lil walk through memory lane:

14 years ago, I met Duffy. We were awkward freshmen in college.

11 years ago, he asked me on a coffee date and barely made eye contact during it 😂 That same year, we danced together for the first time — I couldn’t stop thinking about it for weeks after. I wondered — is it possible to feel such euphoric connection again and again??? (I’ve since learned, the answer is YES)

9 years ago, after a series of (messy) trysts between us, he moved to Boulder and we became “just friends.”

6 years ago, he realized I was the one that got away. He called his dad for advice and got: “she has a boyfriend? You just need to be around and be better than him” (iconic advice tbh)

5 years ago, prompted by the best roomie in the world @sienacanales, Duffy wrote me the most beautiful letter I have ever received in my life (scroll to last slide for proof).

The rest is history. I wouldn’t change a single thing about our journey. Our love feels otherworldly, cosmic, destined 💫

2 years with this insanely delightful and kind soul 😭❤️ (and 10 years of friendship!) if you’ve had the pleasure of meeting him, then you know — to know Duffy is to love him. After 2 years of distance, we’ve finally made it to the same city and I truly can’t believe I get to see him almost everyday 🥹 (even if he’s always embarrassing me in public). 45 years ago today, my dad, alongside 261 other Vietnamese refugees, was saved by Captain Dana French and the crew of the USS Robison (DDG-12).

It was my dad’s 7th attempt to escape. He boarded a 40-ft wooden cargo boat, risking everything in search of freedom. After 2 days stranded at sea, the boat was in a dire situation, until Captain French encountered them and made the decision to bring them aboard. That heroic choice saved hundreds of lives — and quite simply, made mine possible.

My dad calls today his “second birthday,” because he was given another chance at life.

After he made it to the U.S., he spent years scouring Navy forums trying to find the man who saved him. After 30 years of searching, he finally got in touch with Captain French — and I was given the gift of building a relationship with this extraordinary person.

When I got into Harvard, I was thrilled to present Captain French with a Harvard mug. When I got my first job at Bain, he challenged me with a question I’ve carried ever since: “What will you do to serve your community? To make the world a better place?”

This year, my sister @kimoftheinternet and I raised funds to place a bench and a red maple tree in Baker Park as a tribute to Captain French and his legacy. Words can’t capture the gratitude I feel for the life my family and I have been given — one that began with a single act of courage and compassion ❤️ taken in Baker Park, Frederick, Maryland by @vanessatpham

concluded my fifth (!) annual solo trip and I’m feeling very proud. I hiked 30+ miles and drove 1300 miles across the Canadian badlands to the Rockies. Ngl lil college Vanessa would’ve been so proud 😌 since graduating from Harvard undergrad 9 years ago, it has been a dream of mine to speak at Harvard Business School — and I finally got to!

I had the honor of speaking at the 34th Women in Business conference, sharing the wild ride of building Omsom and the privilege of coaching visionary founders now — many of whom are building for an underserved community or putting something out in the world they passionately believe needs to exist.

Of all the speaking I’ve done, sharing in front of an auditorium full of women has to have been the safest and most encouraging environment ❤️

my start to 2025 power move — drop everything and go to SE Asia for a month! Last minute 7-day silent, device-free retreat in Bali gave me profound reflections and closure on my journey building and selling Omsom. Then, I met with Kim and my parents for Tết / Lunar New Years in Vietnam — such precious time with loved ones, reveling in the beauty of being Vietnamese ❤️🧧🐍 taken in Ninh Bình - Việt Nam by @vanessatpham

after 6 months of advising Omsom post-acquisition, I’m officially moving on to focus on a few things I love 💖 transitions can be overwhelming and scary (existential questions like ‘who am I??’), but I’m grateful for the time I’ve had to reflect and soak up that hard-earned self-knowledge. ⁣
