FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART… I will be forever grateful for this CAST, this INCREDIBLY (I’m not even joking) talented group of young artists, who gave me their trust and faced this challenge WITH ME. You were BRAVE (and you were AMAZING!) You embraced a brand new-never done before production and you made it your own. You EXCEEDED every expectation, every preconception, every dream. The already extraordinary music of Maury Yeston shined with a fresh, beautiful new light when it inhabited you. ***I realize now that what I brought was merely a seed. It’s been THEM who really gave birth to “Love Wants a Holiday”*** A couple of days after our weekend performances, and I’m still slowly “going back to earth.” What a journey it has been! Nick @nickhollamby and everyone at the IAB @iabarcelona (Ailis @ailisok , Adria @adriabaulenasbardia , Emma), from the bottom of my heart: thank you for opening your doors to me again, and for supporting this idea with such enthusiasm. I’ve had my share of GOODBYES over the last few years. People who were important to me are no longer a part of my life. SO MUCH changed that it almost felt like a shredding of my skin but then, after the crust fell off, a fresh new layer grew to cover me, one that forced me to learn other ways of breathing and LETTING LIFE IN. That’s what happened with this song, in spite of being called: “THE GOODBYE SONG”, it actually became the welcoming door to an unknown set of emotions and even dreams. This masterpiece was presented to me by the hands of its maker and I was immediately taken by it. When I heard the climax of this piece with teary eyes and a racing heart , all I could think about was “Hello, please COME IN and make yourself at home”. I knew it would stay with me forever and that I had to do something with it. Maury Yeston (NINE, TITANIC, GRAND HOTEL, etc) created the album, “Goya, A Life in Song”, with Placido Domingo as its lead singer, using the painter’s paintings as a starting point for the compositions. This particular song was inspired by the moment in which Goya, exactly 200 years ago, fearing political persecution, decided to leave his homeland, Spain, choosing France as the place to spend his last years. I know now that saying goodbye also brings the promise of future hellos. Maybe not with the same people or at the same place but with something that will inexcusably meet our infinite need to connect. This project involves people from many places around the world. We all got together in the city of Sitges but what really rooted the bond was the MUSIC, as it always does. Thank you “Canción de Despedida” and thank you Maury, for being such an inspiration and for encouraging me to write the first lines of this beautiful chapter in my life. Special mention to my partners in crime: Carlos (choreography) @charliehatmanart , Roger (camera) @rogerbayerrifilms and Eric (post production) @ericpostproduccion and also to this wonderful group of talented girls. Last but not least, thanks to the IAB (Institute of the Arts Barcelona @iabarcelona for your attentive support throughout the process. I hope you enjoy the video!
