We are glad to be part of the Evidence to Impact Symposium: Shaping Adolescent-centered Policies and Programs in Eastern and Southern Africa in Nairobi, Nairobi County from June 9 – 11, 2026
The "Evidence to Impact Symposium —Shaping Adolescent-Centered Policies and Programs in Eastern and Southern Africa”—is bringing together over 300 attendees from more than 20 countries. With sessions spanning research, policy and practice, the symposium will examine the challenges adolescents face and offer solutions to improve their health and wellbeing.

Co-hosted by the Population Council’s GIRL Center, the African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC), the African Institute for Development Policy (AFIDEP), Restless Development, and the Kenya National Council for Population and Development, this symposium pairs rigorous research with policy action. Sessions throughout the conference focus on all aspects that make up adolescent lives, including improving their health and wellbeing; education and economic opportunities; and safely navigating and benefitting from digital and technological transformations and addressing and responding to the impact of climate crises, conflict, and humanitarian emergencies. The sessions also have a particular focus on the adolescents most often left behind, including child domestic workers, adolescent mothers, and those impacted by overlapping crises. by @vap_kenya

Our three-day FURSA Bootcamp for our Apprentice students has come to a successful conclusion today. This event was strategically designed to bridge the gap between academic work and real-world employment by equipping our students with both essential workplace soft and hard skills.

Throughout the bootcamp, we provided our students with immersive learning experiences, insightful industry exchanges, tailored career guidance, personalized mentoring, and invaluable networking opportunities. These components are crucial in preparing them for the workforce and helping them navigate the practical realities of the job market.

We held a community forum, which served as a valuable supplement to our weekly sessions.

The event brought together parents, Secure Futures participants, community leaders, health workers, and psychologists, providing a multifaceted platform to address crucial issues relevant to our community. Key topics included:

- Healthy relationships
- Importance of Mental Health Services
- Importance of clinic visits
- The current state of HIV in Kenya
- Adolescent pregnancies
- Gender-based violence

Moreover, we offered free HIV testing and counseling services right at the forum venue, ensuring that attendees had access to important health resources.

Our Program Officer, Winnie Abigael, attended the Safe Sport 2026 conference at the University of Cape Town. This conference was more than just a series of presentations; it aimed to unite global voices in the field of sports safeguarding.

Delegates, speakers, researchers, practitioners, athletes, advocates, and safeguarding leaders had a unique opportunity to connect through various sessions, interviews, informal conversations, and shared spaces. As highlighted by the World Health Organization. They report that 1 in every 8 individuals is mentally unwell. Additionally, our city faces a concerning trend, with Nairobi Funeral Home receiving between 20 to 34 bodies from suicide cases every weekend, as noted by Tom Nyakaba, the Nairobi County Chief Executive Officer in charge of health.

With over 40 million smartphone users in Kenya, as stated by Safaricom, we believe there is a significant opportunity to utilize technology in raising mental health awareness and providing necessary services. The Nafsi Hub mental health app is a step in this direction, offering convenient access to counseling services and coping strategies directly on users' smartphones.

Today, we hosted a co-design workshop with a diverse team of experts to gather their feedback. This collaboration aims to ensure that our app is user-friendly and meets the needs of our community effectively.

We recently held our 2026 Quarter 1 Progress Evaluation Workshop. During this workshop, our program leads presented the progress we have achieved this far across all our programs at Vijana Amani Pamoja.

We also discussed the challenges we have encountered during the quarter. Together, we brainstormed solutions and made necessary adjustments where applicable to ensure we stay on track.

Looking ahead, we have outlined clear goals for Quarter 2, which include defined objectives, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and deliverables.

Today marked the kickoff of our two-day Coaches Development Entrepreneurship training session. This initiative is crucial for our organization’s growth and the enhancement of our coaches’ skills.

On the first day, our coaches participated in various enlightening sessions that focused on key areas essential for their professional development, including:

- Market Research
- Business Start-Ups

These topics are vital as they provide our coaches with critical knowledge and tools to manage their businesses more effectively.

We had the pleasure of hosting the first cohort of the 2026 Apprenticeship Program today for a Career Awareness Forum that too place at our Youth Empowerment Centre. It was inspiring to see their enthusiasm as they participated in sessions focused on exploring various career paths, including Pastry and cookery, Fashion & Design, and cosmetology & hairdressing.

These sessions were led by industry professionals who brought a wealth of experience and knowledge, providing valuable guidance to help the apprentices make informed career choices.

The Apprenticeship Program, is part of our economic empowerment initiative aimed at equipping young people with practical training, personal development support, and essential learning opportunities. This initiative is crucial for preparing them for employment, entrepreneurship, and ultimately, improved livelihoods and self-reliance.

We are excited to have partnered with Starnet College, who will be instrumental in providing structured learning and technical support for our apprentices moving forward.

Today, we hosted 40 beneficiaries from the 2025 Secure Futures Project, where these young entrepreneurs showcased their innovative business ideas. The presentations were part of a competitive judging process, and we are thrilled to report that the enthusiasm and creativity on display were nothing short of inspiring.

Our judging committee will soon review all presentations and compile a list of shortlisted candidates. Those selected will receive business startup kits aimed at empowering them to launch or enhance their ventures.
