i hope you’re hungry, because im presenting you not one, but two reviews using one of my favourite instagram features. today’s books: „honey“ by imani thompson and „i who have never known men“ by jacqueline harpman.

yrsa ist doktorandin. als sie erfährt, dass ein professor die forschungsergebnisse ihrer freundin stiehlt, fängt sie aus versehen eine biene in die wasserflasche ein, aus die der professor trinkt. die folge: er überlebt es nicht. dieses (zufällige) ereignis führt dazu, dass yrsa einen adrenalinschub bekommt und eine obsession entwickelt. und so nimmt die geschichte ihren lauf und es entstehen weitere (nicht zufällige) ereignisse.

in dem buch honey verfolgen wir yrsa, dessen mentale gesundheit zunehmend zerbröckelt und am ende erleidet sie einen zusammenbruch. dieser äußert sich in manischem verhalten und noch mehr m0rden, weswegen sich diese geschichte eher wie ein thriller angefühlt hat.
interessant fand ich, wie die protagonistin ihre taten versucht hat anhand von wissenschaft zu rechtfertigen und sich selbst analysiert hat.
weitere themen, welche dieses buch behandelt hat sind feminismus, misogynie und rassismus.

guter debütroman und wie ich immer sage i support women’s rights but also women’s wrongs.

this book. in just about under 200 pages this novel explores the basis of what it means and feels like to be a human. i think the most heartbreaking thing about this book was the protagonists longing and hoping for more, while knowing that there was no way to experience, what she wants to experience. it’s hard to explain and summarise this book. this story is one you need to read and experience for yourself. by @vasilicius

august in colours

friends i don’t even want to talk about how today is the last day of august. feeling very emotional and i cried 5 times (thank you luteal phase). this month was really unforgettable and i wish i could bottle up every emotion that is running through my system right now so i can hold onto it forever.

summer in books 📖

is anyone else dreading the end of summer? fall is great and cozy season but it’s something about these hot summer months that breathes life into my soul. maybe it’s because i think that summer means freedom, maybe it’s the sunlight but i am not ready to say goodbye yet.

so this post is an ode to the summer, and every summer to follow.

pictures you haven’t seen before because i took them PART 1

hi friends! i’m back from my vacation in london and i wanted to share some pictures with you.
london is VERY big and a bit overwhelming but i think at the end of the trip i started to love it. so london is definitely seeing me again. idk when, but i will be there!

my favourite part was walking alongside the Thames river as well as Holland Park. 10/10 experience, want to do it again.

read every atom leaves. i’m currently halfway through this book. descriptions about the narrators surroundings and routines are very detailed.

„At one point I say something about growth that I have said before, in other rooms, to other arrangements of the same faces. I do not remember choosing the words. They arrive, as they always do, shaped for the space.“

this quote inspired this post. it’s scary, how quickly one can lose themselves in everyday life because of our routines. i tend to feel very out of touch with myself, kind of like a robot. maybe i needed a reminder to break out of the cycle.

JULY RECAP!

hey friends!
ive been feeling very uninspired lately and these are the few decent pictures i took over the last month. i couldn’t tell you what’s led to this loss of inspiration. maybe the exam season, maybe the new routine because of my new job, maybe something else? i don’t know. what i do know is that i miss sharing things and taking pictures. so this is my attempt at getting back my spark.

in july ive finished two books: addicted after all and breakup season. currently ive picked up honey and every atom leaves. liking both books so far. will keep you updated!

what’s been a highlight of your july? i’m looking forward to hear it!

ich hatte mich sehr auf dieses buch gefreut, leider ist es aber kein highlight geworden. die erste hälfte hat mich komplett mitgenommen, doch die zweite hat mich deprimiert.

wir verfolgen in breakup season drei verheiratete paare, 6 personen, die seit 20 jahren befreundet sind. alle kämpfen mit ihren eigenen problemen, wie rollenverteilung in der ehe, kinderwunsch, das gefühl im schatten des partners zu stehen, esstörung und weitere. sie alle beschließen zusammen in den urlaub zu fahren, der aufgrund der vielen emotionen nicht so gut verläuft und streitigkeiten entstehen. nach dem urlaub kehren die paare wieder in den alltag zurück. so viel zur ersten hälfte.

die zweite hälfte kann ich nur schwer zusammenfassen. hier lag der fokus meiner meinung nach extrem auf die esstörung einer der protagonistinnen. ich habe mich teilweise unwohl gefühlt die abschnitte zu lesen. trotzdem ist es ein wichtiges thema und die autorin hat dies sehr gut in ihrem buch dargestellt.

aufgrund des urlaubs aspekts hat sich dieses buch immernoch wie ein summer read angefühlt. beach read geeignet.
