No place like home in the fall. Yes, lot of leaves in the trees and on ground, and time to prune and protect the Gunnera. Not looking forward to one last cleaning of the pond, but it'll definitely get the blood moving to reach down and pull up the pump! 🥶 by @vaughankb

RIP Lady Marmalade. Yesterday we made the most agonizing decision and ended the suffering of our little girl. When you take on the responsibilities of having a feline or canine family member, you know one of those commitments is this one, and we decided a long time ago that when we knew her time was near we wouldn't allow her to suffer. We will miss her every day, we loved her. by @vaughankb

Boulevardier, Baby, and Beach in the Backyard (OK trying too hard with the aliteration)... nesting rocks found on the beach between Santander and San Sebastien (more aliteration!.. 🙄) by @vaughankb

Enjoyed our one day of Spring (Tuesday), Camilia blooming in the front yard, drink on the back deck, fish over their winter fast and back eating, crows eating lefover cat food and building a nest. Can't wait for it to stop raining. by @vaughankb

Out for a walk after a visit to the hidden gem @railtowncafe. Such a pretty area in many ways (Japantown we used to call it, but I understand that name is controversial), Gastown adjacent, and an enlivened Hastings street with the unbeatable @ladfcheese at the hub. Also some sad cases of people who look downtrodden and discarded. Pardon the shadow! All in all an interesting walk and some alternate views of our city. by @vaughankb

Not great pictures (at dusk, iPhone) but I heard this beauty across the street while I was chopping kindling in the back shed (west side of Vancouver). Stepped out to record the call just in time to watch it soar towards me and land about 6 feet over my head. A thrill, probably stalking prey. Hearing it the night before our Sibleys identified it as POSSIBLY a spotted owl. Any knowledgeable people there can educate me? Now I know why we have fewer rats at the bird feeders! by @vaughankb

Short walk in the neighbourhood after the big rain… messy but so gorgeous and so fall…. raking awaits… the fish seem to like the full pond, they hang around at the edge, are they looking at the yard? by @vaughankb

First fire of the season, Lady Marmalade and I enjoyed it immensely. Also enjoying the Meyer Family Vineyards micro Cuvee Pinot Noir, the @richard.tetrault prints in the living and dining rooms, & Artisan Landscaping in Burnaby for the excellent birch wood. by @vaughankb

Fall is coming! The gunnera is about to come down for the winter, the fish are eating less and soon will go on their 4 - 5 month fast until spring. The last of the dahlias brighten up the island in the kitchen. Last of the geraniums? Maybe a few more days relaxing outside (hmm, I’ve taken better pictures of Marie). Harvesting some bay, thyme and oregano. On the plus side, time to bring in some firewood (is it still legal, I’ve lost track)? by @vaughankb

Dinner in the garden last night with friends, great to dine al fresco while summer is still here. Many highlights but the ‘96 @champagnepolroger (signed by the man himself) was amazing, and a personal fave, gazpacho made with @stoneyparadisefarm tomatoes was otherworldly. Summer, please stick around for a while! by @vaughankb

This is just SO cute, baby nuthatches trying to get in the goldfish “pond.” With 3 bird baths, a fountain, and a waterfall/pond, I have no idea why this became an obsession, but they wouldn’t move even when I fed the goldfish… check the parent feeding them at the end. Disregard my childish babbling. by @vaughankb
