Catch it Friday, November 13 at 6:30 PM at AMC The Grove 14, followed by a Q&A with directors Brenda Fisher and Blake Pickens. 📍 Los Angeles, CA 🗓️ Friday, Nov 13 · 6:30 PM 🎬 AMC The Grove 14 🎟️ https://www.rednationff.com/reservation-redemption/ Follow the journey of “Chief” Marchand Rice — a Colville Citizen and tribal member who has spent more than three decades in prison. At age 17, Chief Marchand Rice received a life sentence without parole, narrowly missing the death penalty by a single vote. Francis Cullooyah, a Kalispel spiritual leader, changed the Chief’s life trajectory by asking a simple question. “Who do you want to be when you grow up”? Realizing he had a choice despite the life sentence he was given. He changed a life without to a life within. He immersed himself in his Native Culture he had never known before and became a leader, a teacher, and a mentor for anyone who wanted to learn. Hope to see you there! by @vavanipro
It’s Native American Heritage Month 🪶 and what better way to celebrate than subscribing to PBS and watching our documentary!! This will not be the last ask I make of you during our month 😅 Reservation Redemption In 1988, 17-year-old Chief Marchand Rice was arrested in the grisly murder of an elderly couple in Washington State. In 1989, he was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. He avoided the death penalty by a single vote. That was 37 years ago. In 2023, the Washington Supreme Court ruled that sentencing juveniles to life without the chance of parole constitutes cruel and unusual punishment. Chief now has the chance to be resentenced.
