We had an extremely successful After Dark weekend in Richmond last month! Thank you to our sponsors, and everyone who came out to connect with other YDs.We also co-hosted a Pride Social with @mrayd on Friday evening to kick off the weekend, celebrating Pride Month before diving into a jam-packed schedule. VAYD members showed up strong across the board, from the DPVA Women’s Caucus Breakfast to the DPVA Black Caucus Juneteenth Luncheon — and hats off to Ty Champion, Cheyenne Combs, Zarah Johnson, Rodrigue Makelele, and Jeremiah Woods for repping VAYD on the “Young Politicos” panel — to the DPVA Rural Caucus Bluegrass Brunch.We are so grateful to everyone who showed up and represented VAYD all weekend long. The future of Virginia politics is in good hands, better outfits, and having a great time. We can’t wait to do it again soon! by @vayoungdems

Today, we celebrate Juneteenth. On this day in 1865, freedom finally reached the last enslaved African Americans more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth is a reminder that progress is never automatic. Let us continue the work of building a more just and equitable future. HRYD is deeply heartbroken to learn of the passing of our member, Dawann Stegall Jr., after a courageous battle with cancer. Dawann was a beacon of light and a committed public servant for our community, serving as Delegate Alex Askew’s Chief of Staff since 2024. He was determined to make the world a better place and was a passionate advocate for the causes he believed in. Many in the Hampton Roads community and who worked with him in the General Assembly had the privilege of calling him a friend. He will be missed more than can ever be expressed in words. We are keeping his family, friends, colleagues, and all who he touched with his life in our thoughts and prayers. May his memory be a blessing and his legacy be an inspiration to us all.
