*I think I am ready.. My father passed away 2 months ago today. We were not expecting this loss. We were not ready for this loss. 4 years and one day after losing our mother. Words cannot describe the empty gaping hole this has brought to my soul. This hole is a fascinating mixed cocktail.. Pain, sorrow, numbness, anger.. With a splash of denial. It has been nothing short of interesting. And nothing I have known before.
*My father was one of the funniest people I have ever met. A “character” if you will. He always had something quick to say. Always wanted to make a joke (and a ‘dad joke’ at that). He could get along with anyone at any time. Always wanted to just have a damn good time. He always had something to say! Oh man.. could he talk and talk and talk.. I never knew how much I would miss having a 3 hour lunch with someone; followed by a two hour phone call. My dad was my father.. But he was also my FRIEND. And fuck.. Do I miss him.
*Nino loved me no matter what I did, what I said, how I acted.. He always just loved me. And he was always SO proud of me. All of us. A feeling I can almost taste.
He will be forever missed and forever remembered.
*These losses have changed me. How could they not. They have taken me to my knees.. But they have also shown me the highest point of mountain tops. The gratitude I feel for having a mother and father who effortlessly loved me how they did has no bounds. I am still learning. I am still walking through this maze. But. I am still going. And my daunting good friend Grief has been tightly holding my hand once again.
*Thank you ALL who have supported me and anyone in my family throughout this time. I cannot thank you enough with words. In honor of my badass one-of-a-kind Dad.. go out there and laugh until your belly hurts.. Until you are wheeze laughing (his specialty).. Tell a dad joke. Make it count for you and for others. His laugh is ingrained in my brain. Forever.
*A heartfelt friend recently told me.. “Heaven gained a Chingon”. And yes.. Yes they sure did!!

1 & 5: One year ago today we lost our father.. and five years ago (and a day) we lost our mother.
My dad and mom met and grew up as kids, got married as adults, separated when I was a kid, and became great friends later in life (with the help from my amazing step father). And now. Those two have managed to leave this incredibly outrageous world together.
Just can’t seem to be apart in ways I suppose.
I know my mother is watching while she dances around enjoying our every move while my father is there making her belly laugh with his superb jokes.. both proud of us all.
My mother was everything beauty, grace and an empress of pure goodness. Simply put.. a stunner in all realms.
My father was everything cool, supportive and a stellar magician of wit and humor. A riot. A contagious “character”.
And what these two people gave me was solid love.
Real. Solid. Pure. Damn. LOVE.
Words cannot describe them as humans.
Words cannot describe the feeling from this gaping hole that is left inside my body.
Words cannot describe the sheer gratitude that vigorously shoots through my veins to have been loved by parents like these two.
If all kids could have parents like these….. what a world we would have. 🙌🏼
Appreciate your loved ones a little extra today.. on behalf of me and my heartbroken yet fortunate family.
