Participating in LoToJa has become an annual tradition we love — bringing our people together for an exciting challenge that also supports meaningful causes throughout the region. With a course stretching more than 200 miles through Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming, we’re proud of our riders for their determination and teamwork in this year's race.

With the school year underway, the new Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine is coming to life as the hub for medical education at the University of Utah.

The building was designed in step with a reimagined medical curriculum — providing flexible, collaborative environments that support team-based learning, early hands-on clinical experiences, stronger connections between academic and clinical training, and interdisciplinary engagement. As students and faculty settle in, this innovative approach to training future physicians has an equally forward-looking place to call home.

And as medical education and healthcare needs change, the building is designed to evolve with them.

After 36 remarkable years of leadership and service at VCBO, principal Jeanne Jackson, FAIA, is transitioning into a new chapter in her career as Principal Emeritus.

Throughout her career, Jeanne has been a passionate advocate for educational architecture, a trusted advisor to clients, and an influential leader and mentor within VCBO and the industry. As Principal Emeritus, she will remain connected to VCBO and continue sharing her expertise while dedicating more of her time to advancing the profession at the national level.

We are deeply grateful for Jeanne’s extraordinary contributions and excited to see the impact she will continue to make.

The new Bountiful Elementary School is carrying a longstanding educational legacy into a new generation.

Designed to support the evolving needs of students and educators, the two-story school brings together 32 classrooms, a multipurpose room, cafeteria, and outdoor learning and play areas within a modern, efficient campus. A ground-source heat exchange system provides energy-efficient heating and cooling, while rooftop solar panels help offset the building’s electrical use.

Replacing the oldest school in Davis School District required a carefully phased approach. The new school was constructed on the existing playfield, keeping the original building operational throughout construction. Once students and staff transitioned into their new school, the former building was removed to create a new playground and field. Separate parent and bus drop-off areas further improve safety and circulation across the campus.

Today, Bountiful Elementary builds on generations of community connection while providing an adaptable, efficient learning environment for those to come.

The Thomas & Patricia Willis Veterinary Medical Education Building is officially open at Utah State University, marking a major milestone for the university’s newly established College of Veterinary Medicine. Created in response to a critical shortage of veterinarians across Utah and the region, the new college will expand opportunities for veterinary education and help prepare the workforce needed to serve communities throughout the Intermountain West.

Designed around the needs of future veterinarians, the 113,000-square-foot building brings clinical training, teaching, research, and student life together in a dynamic new home. With spaces ranging from an operating room and gross anatomy lab to hands-on skills labs, mock exam rooms, research spaces, a central student forum, and outdoor animal enrichment areas, the building responds to the complex demands of veterinary medical education and a modern animal hospital.

It has been a privilege to partner with @usuaggielife, @usuvetmed, and @jacobsenbuilds to bring this significant project to life. Congratulations to the many people whose vision, expertise, and dedication helped create a new home for the region’s future veterinarians.

Yesterday, we were honored to celebrate the opening of the new Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine — a landmark new home for medical education at the University of Utah.

For the first time, the university's medical school community will come together under one roof in a building designed around how students learn, collaborate, and prepare to care for patients. Rising as a new focal point and gateway for the renowned health sciences campus, the building brings medical education into closer connection with the research and clinical care that distinguish University of Utah Health. As Utah and the Mountain West continue to grow, this new home will support the school in preparing future generations of physicians to serve communities across the region and beyond.

Years of visioning, collaboration, generous support, and thoughtful work have shaped a building worthy of the institution it serves. We are grateful to the University of Utah for the trust and opportunity to help create this important new chapter for its medical school, and to our design and construction partners at Yazdani Studio of CannonDesign, Jacobsen Construction, and the many people whose expertise and dedication brought the vision to life.

Congratulations to the Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine and the entire project team on this remarkable milestone.

Congratulations to Lorianne Bisping, AIA, named the 2026 Architect of the Year by Women in Architecture Salt Lake City at this year’s Partini.

For more than two decades at VCBO, Lorianne has brought technical expertise, thoughtful design, and steady, collaborative leadership to projects and teams across Utah. Her impact extends well beyond her project work—from advancing technical excellence within VCBO to helping shape building standards across the state through the Utah Uniform Building Code Commission.

This recognition is a fitting celebration of Lorianne’s commitment to quality, collaboration, and the profession. Congratulations, Lorianne!

Last week, we joined @davisschools, @Hoganconstruction, educators, students, and project partners to celebrate the ribbon-cutting of the new Clearfield High School CTE Center.

Bringing Clearfield’s CTE programs together under one roof, the new center creates a dynamic environment for hands-on learning across fields ranging from automotive, welding, and engineering to health sciences, culinary arts, digital media, and more. Visual connections, shared collaboration spaces, and overlapping circulation intentionally expose students to learning happening beyond their own programs — encouraging them to discover new interests and see how different career pathways and industries intersect.

Congratulations to the entire team on this exciting milestone. We look forward to seeing this innovative new learning environment expand opportunities for students to build practical skills, explore future careers, and prepare for success beyond the classroom.

This summer, a group of emerging design professionals brought their perspectives, creativity, and curiosity to VCBO through our annual summer intern program.

"Every year we host the summer intern program, I enjoy seeing how students from diverse backgrounds, programs, curricula, and skill sets come together and collaborate on a design project throughout the summer," Astra Sun, a summer project mentor, said. "Seeing their development from the beginning to their final presentation was so exciting!"

The interns recently capped off their summer by presenting The Junction, their plan for a community health, fitness, and wellness hub. While developing their project, they rotated through VCBO's studios, contributed to active projects, learned from teams across the firm, and collaborated to bring their own design vision to life.

We are proud of everything they accomplished and look forward to seeing where their design careers take them next!

Central Cove Early Learning Center represents a new model for early childhood education in rural communities.

Designed to inspire discovery and imagination, the facility blends nature-inspired environments, flexible classrooms, shared discovery spaces, and immersive play areas to encourage exploration and connection. Abundant daylight and design elements inspired by the surrounding landscape create a strong sense of place, while universal design strategies ensure equitable access for children of varying abilities.

Located on the Utah State University Uintah Basin campus, the new Central Cove replaces the community's aging preschool with a modern learning environment designed for children ages three to five. The collaboration combines the district's commitment to young learners with USU's educational leadership, strengthening pre-K education through community partnership and evidence-based design.

Together, the project is a transformative investment, set to establish a new benchmark for early childhood education in the region.

We have officially broken ground on the new Mark R. and LeAnn W. Stoddard Social Sciences Building at Snow College.

The 45,000-square-foot building will more than double the classroom capacity for the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences while creating flexible, student-centered spaces that support collaboration and hands-on learning. Anticipated to open in fall 2028, the building will serve programs spanning education, family studies, exercise science, economics, history, political science, criminal justice, psychology, social work, and more.

Located at a prominent gateway to the Ephraim campus, the building is designed to honor Snow College's architectural character and the community's pioneer heritage while providing contemporary learning environments. Flexible classrooms, specialized labs, an early childhood education suite, faculty workspaces, and student gathering spaces will create an active hub serving nearly half of Snow College's students.

Congratulations to @snowcollege, @laytonconstruct, and everyone helping bring this impactful project to life and create exceptional learning opportunities for future Badgers.
