Big news for the future of ultrasound education! 🎓🦋

Butterfly Network and the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) are joining forces in a long-term alliance to reimagine how the next generation of physicians learns and uses ultrasound.

Through 1:1 probe access and longitudinal tracking from medical school through clinical practice, this first-of-its-kind model aims to make ultrasound a foundational part of medical training and expand its impact in rural communities.

With four campuses, VCOM is one of the largest single providers of physicians to the healthcare workforce in the southeastern United States, which is an area facing some of the most significant physician shortages in the country. Nearly 7,000 VCOM alumni now serve patients and communities across the country and around the world.

September is a month of awareness, remembrance, and support. Throughout Suicide Prevention Month, our VCOM–Auburn students helped bring attention to suicide prevention, including the lives of service members and veterans lost to suicide and the families and friends affected.

From placing flags on our lawn and promoting the Green Bandana Project to participating in the lowering of the flag, our students reminded us of the importance of caring for one another. They also participated in Auburn University ROTC’s annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at Jordan-Hare Stadium, honoring the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks 25 years ago.

As future physicians, our students will have opportunities to support the physical and mental health of those they serve by listening with compassion and creating a safe space to ask for help.

Today marks the last day of September and Suicide Prevention Month, but the conversation and support must continue. We encourage our VCOM family—and anyone experiencing thoughts of suicide—to reach out and talk to someone. You matter, and you do not have to face these feelings alone. by @vcom_auburn

For a second year in a row, VCOM has been nationally recognized for its commitment to mental health and well-being, as a recipient of the Insights into Academia magazine’s Excellence in Mental Health and Well-being Award. This reflects our commitment to supporting the whole student, body, mind, and spirit.

VCOM provides proactive, individualized support, including academic counseling, study planning, and early outreach to students who may benefit from additional assistance. Support for well-being extends beyond the classroom, and each campus offers a variety of opportunities, including access to fitness and recreational resources, as well as campus initiatives such as the VCOM Olympics and social events that also include faculty and staff, reinforcing a culture of well-being across the institution.
