The ‘Reimagining the Enslaved African Burial Ground at Van Cortlandt Park’ project unveiled new design concepts to build momentum for a future memorial at the Bronx park’s Juneteenth celebration.

🔗🌸 Meet the Design Ideas Lab teams and explore their visions for reimagining the largely unmarked grounds at the link in our bio, and learn more about this coalition’s work to center community input in envisioning a new public space that fosters long term healing.

🏅🌳 26.2 MILES. ONE AMAZING TEAM.

They did it! 🎉 A huge CONGRATULATIONS to our Team VCPA runners for crossing the finish line at the TCS New York City Marathon!

Help us celebrate our amazing runners in the comments!

Running 26.2 miles is no small feat, and our runners went the distance not just for themselves, but for Van Cortlandt Park and the community that makes it so special. Through their fundraising efforts, they’re helping VCPA continue to care for the park, connect Bronxites with nature, support the next generation of environmental stewards, and bring free programs to our community.

To our runners: Thank you for every mile, every dollar raised, and every step you took for the park. Your hard work and generosity will make a lasting impact long after race day!

We’re so proud to have you on Team VCPA. Now put those feet up. You’ve earned it! 🏃💚🌳

Great Blue Heron, spotted October 27 by Ryan, one of our seasonal crew. Thanks, Ryan!

Great Blues are North America’s largest heron. They stand about four feet tall, have a six-foot wingspan, and can wait completely still in shallow water before striking in a flash. In flight they tuck their neck into an S, which tells them apart from cranes.

You can see them in the park in every month. September is when we see the most, as young herons spread out and migrants pass through.

Spot something in the park? Snap a photo and add it to iNaturalist. Every observation helps us learn what lives in Van Cortlandt Park.

Have you noticed the lovely pollinator garden next to the playground on Van Cortlandt Park East in Woodlawn? We need volunteers to help clean it up before winter comes. Van Cortlandt Park Alliance is hosting a volunteer event Wednesday 11/4 from 1-4 pm. Sign up to volunteer through the link in our bio. by @vcpalliance

Thank you to everyone who attended this year's Wags to Witches! It was a pleasure to welcome so many visitors, human and canine, to the Museum grounds for an afternoon of Halloween fun.

Thanks also to @lincnyc and the Urban Park Rangers @nycparks for joining us and helping to make the festivities such a success.

And finally, a very special shout-out to all the dogs, who stole the show with their wonderfully creative and occasionally terrifying costumes! From the spooky to the adorable, our four-legged visitors and their human companions certainly got into the Halloween spirit.

We hope to see you all again next year!

🏃🌳 GOOD LUCK, TEAM VCPA! 💚

Let’s hear it for Team VCPA! Drop some encouragement in the comments to help power our runners to the finish line!

The countdown is on! This Sunday, our Team VCPA runners will take on the TCS New York City Marathon, tackling 26.2 miles through all five boroughs in support of Van Cortlandt Park Alliance!

These incredible runners have been fundraising to support the park we all love, and every dollar raised will help VCPA care for Van Cortlandt Park, nurture the next generation of environmental stewards, and bring free educational and community programs to the Bronx. Their impact will go far beyond the finish line!

There’s still time to support the runners and VCPA. Visit the Linktree in our Bio and Click on Team VCPA to donate!

To our runners: Thank you for going the distance for the park and our community. We’re cheering you on every step of the way! 🏅💚

Bronx, your voice is needed. New York City is developing the EJNYC Plan to address the environmental justice issues identified in its citywide EJNYC report, and community input is essential to getting it right.

Join us Saturday, November 7th, 11:00 AM–2:00 PM at Fordham University’s McShane Campus Center (441 East Fordham Road) for a community input session. Share the environmental and climate issues affecting your neighborhood and the solutions you want to see in the plan.

RSVP at the link in bio.

It’s one of our favorite times of the year when our good friends at Wilderness Inquiry bring Canoemobile to Van Cortlandt Park.

Over the last two days, they have taken hundreds of Bronx kids out on Hester & Piero’s Mill Pond for a paddle.

We will be hosting a Halloween Community Paddle from 4-6pm this evening - Friday October 23!

Check out creepy crawlies from the depths of the Mill Pond. Enjoy some yummy gummy treats. Don’t forget to wear a fun costume* to take pictures.

Meet us at the northern end of the Van Cortlandt Golf House any time between 4:00 and 5:30 PM – and come ready to paddle!

*No masks will be allowed while paddling and a life jacket must fit over the costume. Water may splash while paddling and the bottom of the boats may be wet. Be mindful of long skirts, wings, hats, and other costume accessories.

* No experience needed!
* People of all abilities are welcome!
* Minors must be accompanied by an adult, and weigh a minimum of 30 lbs to ride.
* First come, first served! The last paddle goes out at 5:30 pm.
* Waivers are required and will be available on-site.
