Decided to do some math. We have been doing vehicle pins for the last 15 years before it became popular. We have made a lot of the mistakes that many of you are making now and we learned from them. Vehicle pins are part of our culture and are done from a patrol level all the way to covert units apprehending violent criminals and is our preferred method. When I tell you that I can defeat your vehicle block, it’s because we have already had the failures that you have not seen yet because it is new to you. When someone tells you how to do vehicle pins, ask them how many they have done in real life and how long they have been doing it.

Anytime we don’t keep pressure on the car we are asking for it to escape. We have to hold the car in place until we get compliance. Once the vehicle is no longer a threat, we can now move to work the occupants out of the car. by @vct_actual

You wrote a warrant to put the target in jail but did you stop there? What about the proceeds from their criminal activities? Did you do your research and build a case showing they are operating a criminal enterprise? A criminal enterprise is not just a narcs thing. Scammers, shop lifters, cargo theft, chop shops, and all other crimes are operating the same way. The warrant is going to be a $5,000 bond and they will go straight back to doing their crimes. Build your cases and dive deeper in the targets and their schemes to show they are operating and profiting from a criminal enterprise. Build your cases to forfeit all of their proceeds from the criminal enterprise. by @vct_actual

If we have the ability to fill spaces around the target car that always helps us out during the apprehension. For this to work we need good surveillance techniques. It looks real weird if you park beside the target car and no one gets out. This also helps ensure that no civilians can park in FOF. by @vct_actual

Bad angles that don’t allow for good contact lets a car push past us. Even in rapidly evolving situations, having the ability to set a good pin can prevent the chaos. Stop standing out in the open and work from cover to call the suspect out to you. Until the vehicle is off and keys thrown outside the vehicles, it is still a threat. by @vct_actual

CONTROL THE CONDITIONS. DON’T FORCE THE OPPORTUNITY.

Successful vehicle containment requires more than getting into position. Positive contact, effective immobilization, and adequate front/rear blocking are critical. Consider the location, civilian traffic, nearby vehicles, and known suspect intelligence.

An inadequate rear or front block can compromise the containment and create unnecessary risk to the lives and safety of the public, as well as the officers involved. Always consider the time of day, number of suspects, and what lies beyond the suspect vehicle.

THE QUESTION ISN’T “CAN WE?” BUT “SHOULD WE?”

If conditions aren’t favorable, don’t force the apprehension. Maintain surveillance, reassess, and wait for a safer opportunity. PATIENCE.

The goal is to conduct the apprehension on law enforcement’s terms—not allow the suspect to dictate the circumstances or force a rushed tactic.

COMMUNICATION IS KEY.

When an opportunity closes, have an unmistakable verbal cue such as “BLOW IT OFF.” Understand when to commit and when to disengage.

Containment opportunities can develop and disappear in seconds. When the opportunity closes, every involved unit needs to know.

PATIENCE IS A TACTICAL ADVANTAGE.

An apprehension doesn’t always need to happen immediately after a crime. Allowing time to pass may reduce a suspect’s initial adrenaline and excitement, creating a better opportunity for law enforcement.

The offense, time of day, location, and surrounding circumstances may all affect the appropriate tactics & timing. But sometimes patience can allow for complacency to set in in your suspect & give them a false sense of “we got away again”. ïżŒ

A missed opportunity isn’t a failed operation. Control the circumstances and apprehend on OUR terms.

As always: Train hard. Follow your state law & agency policy. Stay safe. & Go forth & conquer, street goons.

Finished up VCT today. Awesome group of dudes from every background, patrol to UC roles. Our class is designed to give the maximum amount of real experience in the tile we have. Nothing can replace real world environmental elements we can not control or plan for. The pin is easy but knowing when and where to properly apply it is the biggest factor for success.

Can’t wait to come back and work with these dudes again. by @vct_actual
