Here is the title sequence for COMMON SIDE EFFECTS, which I had the immense privilege of directing and animating. Making one of these had always been a dream of mine. I’m ridiculously proud of it. I can’t thank @joe_bennett_animation, @helytimes, @benjybrooke enough for their trust. Wonferfully scored by the music wizard @nicolas__snyder.

I’ll be sharing behind-the-scene material relating to the title sequence soon!

I also had the chance to direct 3 episodes and work with wonderful people @greenstreetpictures. I can’t wait for everyone to discover Joe and Steve’s new show. It’s already clear to me it will be recognized as one of the greatest animated series ever made.

Premiering on @adultswim on Feb 2, next day streaming on MAX.

I call this animated shot "Révolutions". I animated it little more than 2 years ago during lockdown. It's part of an unfinished film that I probably won't ever complete. So I'm really glad it found a home in the new STZAP episode with @souvienstenzan with a beautiful soundtrack crafted by multi-talented good friend @diffannorman ❤️

As you can see, it's quite a dense shot. I actually first modelled the whole scene in 3D to build a precise reference for the light/shadow animation. The final piece is purely 2D though. I drew everything in Photoshop (including the framed paintings) and animated all lights and shadows in After Effects. Only the goldfish was animated in TVPaint.

I call this shot “The Birth of Vesta”. It appears in Scavengers Reign’s finale which I had the honor to direct. It is hands down the most ambitious shot I have ever animated. The simple fact that it exists is honestly a miracle. On so many levels.

Thank you to all the geniuses who helped me bring it to life. Especially @joe_bennett_animation , @charles.huettner and @benjybrooke for their unshakable faith 🥲

Camera + 3D layout base : @maxime_jouniot 🧙‍♂️
Tie-down + cleanup animation of the 2nd half: @rosado_jl 🦸‍♂️
Color: @benjybrooke & @seanbuckelew 👨‍🎨👨‍🎨
Compositing: @charles.huettner 🎯
Storyboards, rough animation & tie-down + cleanup of the 1st half: moi 🙃

If, like us, you gobbled up Season 1 of @adultswim’s Common Side Effects from @helytimes and 9-time Staff Pick alum @joe_bennett_animation, then you’re familiar with this incredible title sequence which deservedly earned itself a #vimeostaffpick. “Corporate satire never looked so wild.” 💊

Vincent Tsui | Common Side Effects – Title Sequence

Vincent Tsui brings a bold visual identity to Common Side Effects, a darkly comedic animated series created by Joe Bennett and Steve Hely.

The title sequence, directed and animated by Tsui, fuses surreal design with a sharp original score by Nicolas Snyder—mirroring the show’s blend of natural wonder and bureaucratic absurdity.

Pulsing with energy and stylistic tension, the sequence introduces a world where medical ethics and corporate greed clash in vibrant, irreverent fashion.

With Tsui also directing three episodes, his vision shapes much of the series’ distinctive tone, positioning Common Side Effects as a future cult classic.

A selection of my character studies for COMMON SIDE EFFECTS.

Before production officially started, I created a batch of expressions and poses for all the main characters. I usually started from one of @joe_bennett_animation ‘s initial designs and expanded from there.

I feel really lucky to have laid some of the early character design groundwork. It’s so gratifying to see how much they evolved as they passed through the hands of so many incredibly talented artists.
