At 23, Chef Von is building something of his own, and I definitely see the potential. 👀🔥

I pulled up to VD Plates in Neptune, NJ to see what he was cooking up. Chef Von was personable, welcoming, and you can tell he’s putting his own spin on the food.

The flavor was there. The oxtails were tender and flavorful, but I would’ve loved some extra gravy over the oxtails and Rasta pasta to take that plate to the next level. And that honey bourbon cornbread? On point. 👏🏾

The hot honey chicken was juicy and seasoned all the way through. I just wanted that hot honey flavor to come through a little stronger. The salmon egg roll was my favorite of the sides, and the virgin peach Bellini was good too.

Overall, I enjoyed what I tried. There’s room to elevate a few things, but I definitely see the potential.
