Wednesday group polework sessions will be running at SEC and MGD throughout spring and summer.

These groups will be suitable for all levels and abilities, with exercises adapted to suit the combinations attending.

With the school holidays coming up, I’ll have availability at SEC and MGD for:

Kids groups and private lessons can also be added to my other listed dates where possible.

🦄 Kids Corner 🦄
🌟 School Holiday Polework 🌟

Through the holidays I will post some fun but easy layouts for the kids but equally as fun for adults too!!

To kick things off, one of my favourites
The Square ⬜

This layout offers inhand and ridden lines with the focus on accuracy.

Setting up
You need 4 poles, ideally 3m poles.

Push your poles together to create a square over X in the middle of your arena or riding area to allow for lots of options.

** Remember always warm your pony up in walk and trot before starting your polework.
Ride circles, changes of rein and add in some transitions to get you both ready.

If you are using polework inhand - Give your pony a good 10 min walk first before going over any any poles.

For ridden work ⤵️
Start with the easiest lines first and always walk the line so you and your pony know where your going.

Line 1 - Red 🔴
Walk, trot and canter
Through the square over 2 poles.
Stay nice and straight.
➡️ Test your halt transition.
Halt in the middle of the square, walk to halt.

Line 2 - Yellow 🟡
Walk only
Walk around the outside edge of the square, this helps with our steering and control of our ponies body.
Make sure we using our seat and legs, not just our reins.
➡️ Test how close can you stay to the poles.

Line 3 - Purple 🟣
Walk and trot
A straight line through corner to corner.
➡️ Test your straightness and accuracy.
Riding into the corner points can be pretty tricky.

Line 4 - Green 🟢
Walk and trot
➡️ This line tests your turning aids!
Look where you are going.

Line 5 - Blue 🔵
Walk and trot
A curved line over the corner points.
➡️ Make sure you don't make your circles too small and remember to change the rein or you both might get dizzy.

🦄 School Holiday Ponies and Poles Dates ⤵️

🌟 Wednesday 7th Oct
At Mount Grey Downs Equestrian

➡️ Kids Group
- 1.00pm
- Max 4 riders
All ages welcome but must be confident off the lead in walk and trot in a group environment.
Group lessons will include off pony exercises for riders and ponies!
A polework/flatwork group lesson with some fun obstacles.
Bring some snacks and enjoy a hack around the track afterwards 😊

🌟 Thursday 8th Oct
At Selwyn Equestrian Centre Indoor

- 11.00am
- Max 4 riders

Polework when used in purposeful ways is a great way to add variety, fun and interest to your child's riding.
There are many benefits for both pony and rider ⤵️
Improving straightness, accuracy, rhythm and balance to name a few 👌

Focus will be on accuracy, rhythm and fitness.
A great opportunity for spring training in a supportive environment.
