In-Coming: Our 4/18/26 RSD Dropout event is quickly approaching. And one great part of doing these kinds of gatherings involves (re)introducing names of folks who infrequently play here in NYC. Want to avoid ye olde algorithm and/or the yellowing rolodex of familiars. Keep the fridge fresh.

Though not a new name, here is one who too rarely performs in NYC that we’ve been trying to get down here for decades: Anthony Pasquarosa

So pleased to have Tony joining us on 4.18.26 @ 3 p.m.; entire day of events is free and open to all.

Anthony Pasquarosa is a Western Massachusetts based musician, educator and visual artist (PLEASE Note: the poster included here is his work!) whose prolific output spans an unlikely range of worlds and decades (centuries, even): the hypnotic 12-string fingerpicking of his VDSQ recordings; the amazing Crystalline Roses project (occult Americana in the lineage of Robbie Basho); the outsider punk of Burnt Envelope and SQRM; the urgent fuzzed out garage rock of Gluebag; and the rural psych drift of Weeping Bong Band. Hardly a comprehensive list, note we left off the heavy Aerosols post-hardcore project, which still smokes. And lest not forget Frozen Corn, the bluegrass supergroup with Josh Burkett and Chris Carlton!

A devoted student of old time, Tony brings that same restless curiosity to banjo, fiddle, and acoustic guitar in the American folk tradition, playing solo and alongside fellow collaborators.

Much of Tony’s work has circulated through non-careerist b/w lifer underground channels, self-released tapes and CDRs distributed quietly among friends and fellow travelers, capturing his fierce dedication to all things DIY.

Tony’s visual art extends the same mystic, occult sensibilities. We hope to have some of Tony’s art on display during our 4.18.26 celebration of his and other artists performing as part of our non-RSD event.

Nota bene: Gotta take note of Tony’s cooking here as well, and his absolute rejection of social media. Envious of his #westernma ethos.

when I asked @irvifran about a song called "Frank Sinatra Drive" from his excellent recent release 'Havens,' it naturally led us into a discussion about the now-closed Hoboken, NJ venue, Maxwell's, which I often hear people rave about. Alan then shared some of his fondest memories about Maxwell's, including playing there with Love Child and @leeranaldo & The Dust, seeing an early show* by @weeninfo and witnessing the final show by Eric's Trip in its original run.

sometimes you learn that a person you're speaking with witnessed Eric's Trip break up on stage in Hoboken, New Jersey.

such is the case with episode 1015 of the Kreative Kontrol The Beauty Was All Froze podcast, where Alan Licht returns to discuss his recent releases, including 'Havens,' New York City politics, plugging in and then performing and improvising on an acoustic guitar, fond memories of the Hoboken, New Jersey venue Maxwell’s and seeing memorable shows by Ween and Eric’s Trip, meeting and playing with his old friend Tim Barnes, interpreting a Stooges song, revisiting Love Child, upcoming tour dates, other future plans, and more.

New Music!!!! Guitarist Arian Shafiee returns to VDSQ with Piano, a stunning new entry in his discography. This digital-exclusive EP picks up where his last full-length, Engines In Unity, left off, while also harkening back to the solo acoustic intimacy of his debut, A Scarlet Fail. Once again, Shafiee explores and manipulates textural melodies, guiding listeners through a constantly evolving triptych of solo guitar.

Throughout these pieces, Piano unveils a quiet romanticism—at times frenetic, at others serene. There’s a sense that we’re listening in on a private concert, where the opulence of his phrasing is gently softened by the warmth and grain of a timeworn tape machine. It’s a sound that feels both intimate and timeless. Fortune's Mirror is out now on all listening platforms via @vdsqrecords and @theblackeditions

Thanks to the endlessly kind, generous and talented @patrickshiroishi for playing saxophone on the final track. Patrick was one of the very first friends I made in LA. love his music so much, and I love how the song turned out.

@daggasound mixed, produced and provided INFINITE patience and know-how through the entire process. These songs went through more than a few different iterations, and I think we ended up with something really cool. He's a top guy, folks!

@lizeon was nice enough to let us use some of her breathtaking paintings on the cover and inner sleeve. The record looks absolutely incredible, and my hastily taken, poorly-lit photos really don't do it justice.

@williamtylertn wrote some very kind and thoughtful words about the album. I've admired William's music for over a decade now, and his record "Impossible Truth" pretty much served as my introduction to the world of solo guitar music. Over the past couple years we've become good friends, and that makes me feel good things about life and music that I have a hard time articulating this early in the morning.

And of course, none of the above would've transpired if not for Steve Lowenthal of @vdsqrecords planting the seeds for the whole project. Had he not suggested it when we first met a few years ago, I honestly don't think I ever would've written a full record of solo guitar music. On top of that, he kept believing in it, even when it very easily could've gone off the rails many times over. Very thankful for that.
