As most of you know, A couple weeks ago I was hospitalized and diagnosed with Lymphocytic Meningitis. Since then, I have been focusing on regaining strength and stability to get back to doing even the simplest of tasks, which has been humbling, challenging, but rewarding. My recovery was looking great, until I was recently hospitalized again.
I had arrived to Baylor UMC in extreme pain and was admitted for pain management over the weekend. I was placed on stress dose steroids and a fentanyl drip for pain care. Everything was great, until Sunday afternoon rolled around and I started noticing things weren’t getting better. I tuned into my body and realized the symptoms I was experiencing weren’t a normal reaction to the treatment I was receiving. All of a sudden, I felt like I was hit by a truck which led me to an excruciating pain despite the high dose of medication I was on. My vitals started dropping tremendously, and my care team took immediate action to get to the bottom of what was going on. A few moments later, labs were drawn and rapid response had come to my floor, and determined I was in severe septic shock as a result of my Foley catheterization that led to reoccurring UTIs and lingering sickness from prior hospitalizations.
I was then moved quickly down to the Medical ICU. After just a few hours of fighting this terrible illness, I felt my body giving up. I was giving up. I wasn’t responding to the medication I was placed on to pull me out of the shock, my organs were shutting down, and my life was being severely threatened by this illness. My care team had explained to me that I would have to be in a positive headspace to heal myself and I didn’t have it in me to keep fighting. I made a call to my priest, and honestly just hoped that dying would be the answer to stop the pain I was experiencing. I received my last rites performed by my wonderful priest and felt a wave of relief, gratitude, and peace wash over me. I was ready to go. I fully surrendered my body to Jesus and just prayed going would be painless and fast. (Next slide)

The summer I…….. got Lymphocytic Meningitis?
If you don’t know, I’ve been diagnosed with Lymphocytic Meningitis which is a disease that affects my brain, neck, and spine functionality, attacking my healthy cells and inflaming my nervous system. Typing this from my hospital bed feels surreal knowing just a couple months ago I was a normal, happy college student. Please never ever take your life for granted and LIVE BOLDLY, LOVE LOUDLY and ALWAYS STAY POSITIVE!
In all seriousness I want to thank all of my doctors and nurses here at Baylor UMC, having to spend my 21st summer in the hospital for 90% of it has been the biggest hurdle the Lord has put me through, but knowing this is my journey and knowing that the reward that is to come will be sweet, makes it all worth it.
To my friends and family, thank you for selflessly caring for me and helping me through this as it is not possible to walk through alone. I appreciate every single one of you and your prayers.
