It's actually reassuring to know people have been messing around on bikes since we've had bikes. I like to think these two Gentlemen were sessioning the Capitol steps long before Red Bull were putting on events. by @velocentric

As far as I know these tumblers have never been used. They're still in their original mail packing dated from 1932.

They were ordered from what appears to have been a quite well-to-do department store in Pre-war London by Mrs Margaret Cowburn, wife of Major Arthur Basil Cowburn while the couple were overseeing Northfields House at Stamford High School.

I can tell you many things about the life of Major Cowburn simply because this box exists. I can tell you he had a Brother, he played cricket, he was brave in battle (Military Cross recipient in 1917), highly regarded by his pupils, and that he died in 1960 at the age of 83.

Margaret, however, is barely mentioned in the records. I have seen a photograph taken alongside her husband surrounded by their pupils, I know she took so much pride in her home that she ordered what must have been very expensive glassware that she was so careful with they're now in my possession nearly 100 years later, and I know that she lived until the 30th of June 1973 aged 88.

All this to say: we need to start making better records of not just the men in the world, but the women that go through life with them.

Margaret, I'll keep these safe. by @velocentric
