In through the nose, pause, out through the mouth… Repeat.

Mindful breathing is a technique I’ve adopted over the past little while to help me ground myself as I work through the anxiety of the day-to-day.

Not gonna lie, it felt super mechanical and ‘out there’ at the beginning but recently I actually caught myself doing it reflexively and that’s when I knew it stuck.

Glad to be filling my lungs with fresh air these days instead of weed & cigarette smoke!

Oh what a year this has been.

365 days ago on NYE, I was raising a toast with my friends talking about how we were going to start 2024 off on the ‘right foot’ and make it a year to remember…

But by the time the sun rose on January 1st, all I could think about was the sound of my heart mercilessly beating out of my chest as I came down off a medley of street pharmaceuticals. Strings of bloody snot leaked from my nose as I struggled to keep eye contact with the ghoul who now occupied my reflection in the mirror.

Just like that, one domino effect of bad decisions later, there I was. In that same f*cking place. For the zillionth time.

Beat down, broken and ashamed for having gone back on my word once again.

I knew I had to close that chapter once and for all.

… So I did.

I committed to sobriety (from everything this time) and feel proud to say that I will be starting off THIS New Year fully sober.

These last 10 months have stretched me to my limits more times than I can count and not once did I rely on substances to help me ‘get through it’.

I feel deeply appreciative of the lessons and humility I have learned this year.

I never thought I’d be sobering up at age 29 and I DEFINITELY never thought that decision could mean this much… :)

A new beginning is always available to us if we choose to make change.

Here’s to 2025 and beyond.

A few summers ago, someone I love confessed to me that they had cheated on someone else I love.

That sh*t f*cking sucked.

It made me look back in time and wonder what else might have been concealed from me…

I blinked and it was over.
