I get asked very often about my path into corporate venturing, so I decided to map it out visually. It turned out quite messy and the truth? It's been equal parts strategic skill building and luck. Key insights from reflecting on my journey: 1️⃣ Foundation matters - Those early years building financial models and slide decks taught me to speak C-suite language, a skill that's served me in every role since 2️⃣ Portfolio thinking is everything - Managing a €100M project portfolio at a Swedish insurance company taught me to see patterns across investments, crucial for venture work 3️⃣ Geographic courage pays off - Each international move (Canada → Netherlands → Sweden → Silicon Valley → Switzerland) opened doors I couldn't have imagined 4️⃣ Luck favors the prepared - Being in Silicon Valley during the fintech boom, arriving at Hitachi as they pivoted to corporate venturing and climate tech - timing mattered, but so did being ready 5️⃣ Growth isn't always vertical - Some of my best career moves looked sideways, not up. When I started out in Silicon Valley in 2016 I took a 3-month contracting role at the same salary level I had more than 10 years back in 2005....but it gave me a network and through this contracting role I met the innovation lab at Hitachi... 6️⃣ Your background is your differentiator - Whether you come from finance, engineering, marketing, or any other field, you bring unique perspectives that the innovation ecosystem needs. I don't have a big-name university on my resume, but that never held me back. The biggest lesson? Your career is simultaneously a strategy game and a series of bold bets. Plan what you can control, stay open to what you can't. The innovation world needs diverse thinking - your "non-traditional" background might be exactly what makes you invaluable. I also worked on an innovation and corporate venturing skills framework, for both PDFs see the comments for a link. #CareerJourney #CorporateVenturing #ClimateInnovation #CareerAdvice #StartupEcosystem #Innovation #CareerPivot #WomenInTech #VentureCapital by @venture_leap

The 2024 VC numbers are in and they're absolutely wild 🤯 48% of ALL US venture deals went to AI companies. That's not a typo. We're witnessing the biggest shift in startup funding since mobile took over after 2008. But here's what's really crazy: while AI companies are drowning in cash, everyone else is fighting for scraps. The top 10% of VC funds now control almost two-thirds of all capital. And those 646 unicorns worth $2.4 trillion? Most are basically stuck. Only 1 in 4 have the metrics to actually go public. If you're building a startup right now, the rules have completely changed. Swipe to see what this means for founders 👉 What sector are you building in? While Big Tech builds AI behind closed doors, Switzerland is doing the opposite. ETH Zurich, EPFL, and CSCS are releasing a fully open-source LLM this summer: ✅ Fluent in 1,000+ languages ✅ Trained on 'Alps' supercomputer (100% carbon-neutral) ✅ Completely transparent - code, weights & data all public ✅ Available in 8B and 70B parameter sizes Why does this matter? Open models enable true trust and accountability - something you can't get from black-box systems. Stay on the lookout - this could be a game-changer for truly open AI 🚀 #SwissAI #OpenSource #AITransparency #TechNews #ArtificialIntelligence #Innovation #AIResearch #Switzerland #MultilingualAI #OpenData #SustainableAI by @venture_leap

🔥 Europe’s Heatwave Emergency: Wildfires, Deaths & Nuclear Shutdowns Southern Europe is battling a historic heatwave, with temperatures hitting 46 °C in Spain. Wildfires rage in Catalonia, and at least 8 heat-related deaths have been reported across Spain, France, Italy & Germany. Schools are closed, cooling centers are open—and even Swiss nuclear plants had to shut down as river water got too hot to cool reactors. 🌍 As extreme weather intensifies, what will it take to build climate resilience in Europe? 👉 Follow for more updates on climate tech, innovation & sustainability. #ClimateCrisis #extremeheat #heatwave🔥 #ClimateChange #ClimateResilience #Wildfires #SustainabilityNews #ClimateTech #energycrisis #climateadaptation taken in England, UK by @venture_leap

🚨 Microplastics Found in Melting Glaciers – Even in the Austrian Alps 🏔️❄️ Shocking but true: A recent Greenpeace investigation uncovered microplastic pollution in ALL five glaciers they tested in Austria — including the iconic Pasterze and Schlattenkasche glaciers. 🧪 13 different types of plastic were found, even in these remote, high-altitude areas. Some were specially processed plastics — a sign of human impact reaching the planet’s most untouched places. As glaciers melt faster each year due to climate change, they’re also revealing something far more toxic: our plastic footprint. 🌍💧 This isn’t just an alpine issue — it’s a global wake-up call. ✊ Let’s push for stronger climate and plastic pollution policies. 💬 What are your thoughts on plastic in the Alps? Let us know in the comments. #microplastics #ClimateChange #MeltingGlaciers #PlasticPollution #GlacierMelt #SustainableFuture #ClimateCrisis #ZeroWaste #EnvironmentalNews #ClimateActionNow #savetheplanetearth #greentech #plasticcrisis taken in India by @venture_leap
