Rich in life because I have You by @venusasmars
This video was made after the passing of one of my closest, bestest friends. Since then, many people in my life, near to my heart, have transitioned beyond Life. I struggled to edit this video because it seemed that nothing could really capture the feeling of moving through Grief. But the point remains, we must move through grief. It will never go away and I don’t want it to. I want the grief and the nostalgia to hold my loved ones in my heart and my mind forever, no matter how painful it is to remember. My friends and family live in these poses. They are a part of my practice because this movement has connected me to their transition in a way that I cannot explain in words. Yoga has taught me plenty about death, rebirth, forgiveness, and liberation more than any physical experience. This practice makes me feel closer to them, but also helps me grow past the tight grip I once held onto to keep them near. It’s unfair that I get to live this life without you. But, everyone has a time. I will make sure you are never forgotten and always remembered in good health. Those who have passed are my reason to continue to Live, as they would have. ॐ असतो मा सद्गमय तमसो मा ज्योतिर्गमय मृत्योर्मा अमृतं गमय ॐ शान्ति शान्ति शान्ति Lead me from the untruth to the Truth. Lead me from darkness to light. Lead me from death to immortality. Om Peace Peace Peace. 🕉️ #yoga #grief by @venusasmars
In my personal practice and in my classes, I will occasionally listen to Reggae music, if any music at all. Reggae music is liberating, purposeful and God/Jah-centered. These are the only lyrics I want surrounding my spiritual body these days. I feel vulnerable to the forces around me. This music serves as a reminder of where I stand and what I am fighting to achieve for myself and my children. As an Indo-Caribbean, Reggae music is the intersection between my heritage, my practice and my devotion to God. #reggaemusictotheworld by @venusasmars
How much of what I consider my destiny is rooted in my influences and manufactured desires? Destiny, supposedly, is fate-based and unchanging; predetermined, and also translates to the concept of Karma. However, if there is no connection to the True Self, the impressionable ego, then wouldn’t our destiny/karma/fate be untrue to our essence? It is very easy to become tangled in modern culture, which shifts our focus away from healing, connection, and Faith. It drives us down the path of vanity, superficiality, and false worship. We may follow the “wrong” path so far that it changes the divine makeup of our original purpose, and we force ourselves to find a home on a path that isn’t ours. I believe that we will eventually become that which we pay most attention to. I believe devotion is an act (not a feeling) so powerful it can change the direction of your life, or your destiny. What are you consciously devoting to? What are you subconsciously worshiping that is slowly changing what is truly meant for you in this life? I want to be the ruler of my Destiny, not some pseudo-virtue signalling- inauthentic version of myself. Thankfully, I meet the ruler of my destiny at the end of my Yoga practice. Liberate your mind. Practice Yoga and may God be with you 🕉️ #reggaemusictotheworld by @venusasmars
I never wanted to live long enough to see the world betray me or, to experience sincere pain and grief. I wanted to live fast and leave with only good things to say about my Life. This was my mentality when I was in my early 20’s! I am grateful to be alive, to have faith, true guidance and trust in God. Yoga is my vehicle to Him and my personal Tao. I am thankful to grow older and embrace the turbulence 🕉️ by @venusasmars

It’s been difficult to access gratitude through Guilt. I’ve become hyper-aware of the layers in which we are living through, the constant adjusting and revising of our perspectives, opinions, and thoughts is overwhelming to say the least. It seems that every waking, conscious moment, there is something new to be angry about. And I argue, perhaps I am not fit to take on the responsibility of my ambitions. I flee, I freeze, I retreat to warmer weather while everyone else is fighting something more rewarding, not even noticing my absence. Maybe it’s not worth noticing at all. At least I can say, confidently, that Costa Rica will always be a reminder of a younger, driven, fearless version of myself. There are pieces of me shattered in the sands, there are familiar voices I hear in the warm winds - there is something for me there, always, it seems. I have been reminded that nothing will change if I don’t. The message will not resonate if the messenger is not aware of where he stands both in his body and beliefs. The best way to contribute, to fight, to prevail, to return is to cleanse. The solution to a spiritual problem is within the thread that connects all things. I think, once the inner path is paved to that which connects us all, there will be no need to escape from anything, because you will realize that you are a part of it all. by @venusasmars
I’ve never regretted the time spent moving. Circulating, transferring, reconfiguring, dancing, rearranging, clearing, receiving, letting go. But, I didn’t practise as much as I might have liked to last year. Admittedly, I have not done as many things as I thought I would last year. I say this not in a bad, dreadful way. I am not one to dwell on the things that I lack. Rather, reflectively I think simply about what Is. What I have allowed myself to become as a consequence of Life’s unfolding. I have become many things that I do not understand. Sometimes, it feels like I am meeting myself for the first time when I stand before the mirror. This movement is how I slow down time to witness the Greatest Show on Earth that is my Life. #yogapracticenotyogaperfect by @venusasmars
