Whispers from the Past, collage and watercolor. An ethereal figure stands in a landscape of shadow and mist. She carries that soft, dreamlike quality, floating between the living world and the spirit world.

Uncle Stanoje, oil pastel. This painting was influenced by late Cubism in its style and strong colors. The two pointed shapes at the top of the head represent the traditional Serbian folk costume cap. In the painting it has become part of his anatomy, and therefore part of his identity. by @veraleonart

The Saint, oil pastel. Painted at the dawn of the civil war in Yugoslavia, this portrait shows the saint looking both inward and outward, torn and hurt by what was unfolding among his people. by @veraleonart

Dreaming Landscape, oil. The whole scene feels like the moment between waking and dreaming, where the landscape is still deciding what it wants to be.

Young Girl, oil pastel. In this portrait, her soulful gaze expresses quiet intensity and self awareness, as though she's lost in her own thoughts.

Into the Light, watercolor and charcoal on paper. As figures move through darkness, so do we. By facing the shadow within, we become more self-aware and more integrated, until we are ready to step forward into the light. by @veraleonart

Runner, pencil on paper. Strong, dynamic legs express a woman’s physical power, and her serene, mask-like face is a quiet reflection of it. by @veraleonart

Gazing Beyond, graphite and white chalk on paper. This drawing started as a more realistic portrait but quickly turned into pure play as I broke down the face into sharp angular planes. The eyes came out restless, like they’re seeing far beyond ordinary reality. by @veraleonart
