The mountains of Abruzzo are dotted with dramatic castles rising from the rugged peaks of the Apennine Mountains—a landscape that feels almost untouched by time.
I strongly recommend visiting these beautiful reminders of the past, especially in places like Santo Stefano di Sessanio. Many of these structures are in remote areas, and in some villages, people still live among them. A Guinness-style Irish pub in the Apennine Mountains, in the town of L’Aquila in central Italy. The beer is Irish, but the food is Italian—making it one of my favorite places on Earth.
