Scifi doesn’t have to be epic to be true. Sometimes it’s just about loneliness, loss, and what’s left of you when the thing that made you you is gone.

“NXN” was created for the Ripcord Horror Competition, which gave me the perfect reason to bring Sister Joan Dark and her strange little world to life.

What started as a short for the competition quickly became a proof of concept for something much bigger.

The short is weird, sinister, darkly funny, and a little sacrilegious.

And while NXN is heading to Ripcord, let’s just say we already have a much longer version cooking.

👻 I’m judging the future… and it looks terrifying.
I’m excited to be a judge for SpookyAF — a horror film festival, speculative design lab, and technology buildathon happening during LA Tech Week.

The challenge? Imagine humanity after a technological collapse. Teams will build cinematic visions of the futures we fear, the systems that might save us, and the choices that determine whether humanity survives.

I’ll be judging across:
🧠 World building
🎬 Visual storytelling
⚙️ Technical execution
⚖️ Ethical tension
🔥 Memorability

And yes… we’re also asking: What’s the most terrifying technology you can imagine?

We’re still trying to find the words. Miso is still trying to find the trophy’s flavor. 🥈

Our film NOBODY DIES ON MARS, the first Matriarch production, placed 2nd at the Future Vision XPRIZE.

We wouldn’t exist without V @verenapuhm and James Stowe @projectcomfortable, who wrote our whole story, created our world and gave our banter meaning.

Jack Hahn @notjackhahn cut it together, Joachim M. Weber @this_is_jmdub built our music and sound in late nights between Munich and L.A., and Brian Wankum @brianwankum brought last-minute VFX magic. (Miso still doesn’t know what VFX is, but he says it’s why he looks this good.)

Thank you to the Moonshots team @moonshots_pod for going above and beyond and flying our composer out.

Thank you to Morenike Dosu, Brian and Joachim for handing out our Fizz Crackers (we still have questions about our faces being on candy), and to Tyler Donahue @bytylerd for taking care of us all night on his own birthday. 🎂
