April last year, @voguephilippines featured my life story in the most historic Vogue issue with legendary 106-year old indigenous tattoo artist, Apo Whang-Od on the cover. One of the greatest honors in my career not just as the Filipino- American music artist-producer based in Spain people know me now, but also as the footwear designer based in New York City people knew me then. My story is one that is writ large with both glorious triumphs and crippling challenges. I felt it was time to open up and share my story, so it may help others who are also going thru massive, difficult shifts in their own lives. The times we may feel our lives were falling apart often also mean our lives were also falling into place. The Universe has its way of redirecting us to where we have always been meant to be to become who we have always meant to be. Every step - whether wonderful or horrifyingly painful- has a purpose. My father told me once that life is a wheel. We go up and we go down, up and down, down and up. But the point is to keep that wheel going and enjoy the ride, because we could never know where it may take us. 🩶

My 2022 Orchestral Darkwave cover of “Cities In Dust” by Siouxsie and The Banshees which is celebrating its 41st anniversary today, and this song lands quite hard in our current times.

Released in 1985, the Siouxsie original draws inspiration from the destruction of Pompeii, evoking the impermanence of civilizations and the ruins left behind when the world as we know it collapses. Decades later, its imagery feels hauntingly relevant in a world still caught in ruthless cycles of conflict, war, genocide, political upheaval, destruction and human suffering.

Part of my sophomore LP Arcana, my cover takes on a life of its own through an orchestral darkwave reimagining. The accompanying music video draws inspiration from Greek arias, in which I embody a war god illuminating the Menhirs of Peace in a symbolic gesture that challenges the very nature of the war god archetype.

Because even the gods of war know that war is not the answer.
And yet, humanity continues to repeat the same cycles of destruction.

How much must we lose before we finally learn?

May we find our way back to peace. 🤍🕊️

Interstellar Warrior Goth 🖤🪐 My gothic post-metal and darkwave cover of one of my favorite songs ever “The Outsider” by @aperfectcircle whose sophomore LP “Thirteenth Step” just celebrated its 23rd Anniversary. One of my favorite covers and music videos I’ve ever done. Someone told me that it’s like The Cure and APC combined with some Kate Bush, Siouxsie and Florence + The Machine. That stuck with me forever since.

Visually, we wanted to give a more mystical and interstellar interpretation of the song. We transformed the landscape of our home into an alien planet, taking some of that House Harkonnen sleekness from Denis Villeneuve’s Dune as inspiration for the costume, and some 80s fantasy film for the background treatment. I’m also wearing emblems of my indigenous Filipino lineage thru a futuristic lens. Our famous lighthouse was transformed into an alien fantasy tower that looks as though it came from the Dark Crystal.

It’s quite an amalgamation of influences that is the cornerstone of the C Z A R I N A project as an homage to the great artists and visionaries that shaped me.

⚔️ Lethal and Goth ⚔️ “Ghost Machine” (2024) challenges tyrannical order and oppression with themes of uprising, rebellion and justice. This is one my favorite gothic post-metal, modern darkwave works with some 90s dark alternative and dark electro elements. The video was inspired by the original cyberpunk anime “Ghost In The Shell”, “Akira, and the manga “Battle Angel Alita” with some serious freestyle Kenjutsu double blade work by yours truly. All shot in the epic seascape of my home Costa Da Morte.

I also was joined by my film, creative and life partner-in-crime @deadlykawaii in the video who’s also a 3rd Dan Budo, Bujutsu and Japanese MMA master, and the person responsible in equipping me in real life.

The video was produced and filmed by just the two of us. No choreography — all freestyle. We just did our thing together with only maybe 15 minutes of drone battery life left.

The last slide shows the amount of VFX and CGI used to create this.
And as always 100% Human Made music and visuals and sheer badassery.
