I was planning to go back to Bicol for your 85th. It was exciting since it’s been decades since I’ve celebrated your birthday with you.

You took care and put up with us growing up, I know I was a pretty unbearable preteen. You watered the flowers and vegetables in the backyard in your duster dress while we played outside.

You rubbed ice on my swollen mosquito bites, Vicks when my muscles hurt, reminded me to practice piano and folded our clothes while we watched tv and played video games. I wish I knew back then how lucky I was to have you there.

No matter what age we are, you still saw all of us grandchildren as children and requested that we play in the sand so we don’t get swept away in the water.

I always cried whenever I had to leave you—I hated, hated that part. This time is no different.

I know you’re happy you’re reunited with Daddy, so you rest now. I love you Mama Helen. by @vetville
