A new chapter for V. Fonts Law. ✨

V. Fonts Law, P.A. isn’t new, but sharing it with all of you like this is.

Over the past year, I’ve been quietly building my firm, serving clients, and thinking very intentionally about the kind of law practice I want to create. And I’m finally ready to bring that vision forward.

I created V. Fonts Law with a simple purpose: to help families, business owners, and individuals protect what matters most.

That means helping families plan for the future and protect the people they love. Helping business owners protect what they’ve worked so hard to build. And when someone’s life is disrupted by an injury, helping them protect their recovery and move forward.

As I step into this next chapter, I’m especially excited to begin welcoming estate planning clients and building a planning experience that feels personal, thoughtful, and completely different from the traditional law firm experience.

There has been a lot happening behind the scenes to get here, and there’s still so much more to come. I’m incredibly grateful for every client, friend, colleague, mentor, and family member who has supported me along the way and most of all, grateful to God for continuing to open the right doors at the right time.

This one may or may not have been inspired by a conversation with my dad 😅

He was convinced that transferring a home into a trust meant he’d have to refinance the mortgage.

And honestly? It’s a good question, because your house and your mortgage are related, but they’re not the same thing.

So let’s clear this one up.

“Can I put my business in a trust?”

Short answer: kind of…but probably not in the way you think.

When we talk about putting a business “in a trust,” we’re generally talking about transferring your ownership interest in the business to the trust.

But before you sign anything, your operating agreement, ownership structure, transfer restrictions, and other governing documents matter.

Because when it comes to your business, the details matter.

Someone asked me this during my Q&A:
“I have a young child. What should I be doing to protect him and my family?”

And honestly, this is one of the most important estate planning questions a parent can ask.

Because planning for minor children isn’t only about what you leave them.

It’s also about who you choose to care for them, who you trust to manage what you leave behind, and how you want that inheritance handled.

Those are decisions you get to make now, instead of leaving someone else to figure them out later.

Your kids shouldn’t have to figure out the plan you never made. ☝🏽

Turning 18 comes with a lot more legal independence than most people realize.

And while estate planning probably isn’t at the top of your list at 18, 25, or even 35, these documents aren’t just about death. They’re about making sure the right people can step in if you ever can’t make certain decisions for yourself.

You don’t need to know all the legal jargon. But you should know these documents exist. ☝🏽

Because estate planning isn’t only about what happens after you’re gone. It’s about protecting you while you’re here, too.

A lot of people think estate planning starts and ends with a Will.

But some of the most important planning has nothing to do with what happens after you die. It’s about making sure the right people can step in, make decisions, and help manage your affairs if there ever comes a time when you can’t do those things yourself.

A Will matters. It just doesn’t do every job.

Estate planning isn’t only about what happens after you’re gone. It’s also about protecting you while you’re here.

A lot of business owners know exactly who they want to “leave the business to.”

But that’s only part of the question.

If you were suddenly unavailable tomorrow, could that person actually step in today?

Knowing the business, inheriting an ownership interest, having access to critical information, and having the legal authority to make decisions are not necessarily the same thing.

A real succession plan has to account for the gap between who you want in charge and who can actually keep the business moving.

Because protecting what you’ve built isn’t only about where it goes someday. It’s also about whether it can keep working without you.
