If you enjoy The Secret of Nimh and Watership Down, this book is for YOU! It was for me 🥰! This was a quick, engaging, and devastating read. I adore the way Effie LaRoe's mind works and how she weaves her tales, changing perspective to follow many different characters. I fell in love with this world in her first book, The Magic Thief and the Whisper Heath, and i was thrilled to spend more time with the Bapporre and the animal kin of Havarrow in this installment! My biggest complaint about the book is that it wasnt longer. I could have stayed here for many more pages!

I received a free ARC from the author, and these are my own honest thoughts! 🩷🖤🧡🌾🌾🌾🌾🌾

Long live the Thistle Witch and the Whisper Heath 😜

Not to be dramatic, but.... MY EXCLUSIVE ARC OF EFFIE LAROE'S NEW NOVELLA 'FORENOON' CAME IN TODAY AAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!

sorry but all of the 7 (or 8 or 9) books im currently cycling through are being put on HOLD IMMEDIATELY so that i can enjoy this grimsical tale of animal kin that I already KNOW has so much heart and mystery (maybe because I got a little teeny tiny peek at the first draft which earned me a spot on the acknowledgments page IDK MAYBE AAAAAHHH ITS FINE EVERYTHING IS FINE!!!)

My deepest thanks to @effielaroe for being so kind and thoughtful to send me this exclusive ARC! But rest assured I will be purchasing a copy of the version with @poeticadesigns 's equally gorgeous cover once the book is officially out September 8, 2026!!

I also might just have to re-read The Magic Thief and the Whisper Heath while im at it 🖤🌾

Oh my god this series!!!! The art is unbelievably beautiful and the slow burn tension is palpable. Plus, it got me listening to some good music. Simply heavenly!
