For this edition of Notes, we speak with Via @viamoras about the fluid, otherworldly visual language of her practice and her fascination with colour, light and materials in constant transformation.

Working with water, pigments, oils and light, Via explores the unexpected images that emerge when control is partially surrendered to the material itself. We discuss how moving between São Paulo and Berlin has influenced her perspective, her interest in shifting scale and making the almost invisible visible, and the meeting point between science, spirituality and abstraction within her work.

Via also takes us inside her approach to colour—revealing how instinct gradually gives way to intention as she uses palette to manipulate depth, movement, temperature and atmosphere.

Notes is MJDA’s ongoing series of conversations with artists and creatives, exploring the ideas, influences and processes that exist behind the finished work.
