It has been 8 years since I last queued for @barrafinalondon on Dean Street and back then, I thought the one hour wait was worthwhile and I felt hip and young.

2023: It's still great, though I don't think my legs will last any more than a 15-minute wait.

This time, my friends and I walked in at 12 noon (tip from M who used to live in London - arriving at the start of lunch time be good).

All-time fave barrafina hits still:
1) the runny prawn and egg tortilla
2) crema catalana

New faves:
1) cured monk fish
2) mushrooms with cured yolk taken in Barrafina by @vicfoodarchives

I never thought I would miss mapo tofu so much. It's the best thing with white rice.

This one @namkee.amsterdam had the perfect level of spiciness, wasn't too oily and salty.

The parents: order what you want because we will be leaving soon 🥲

Are there good places to have mapo tofu in Edinburgh? taken in Nam Kee by @vicfoodarchives

My old friend from the postgrad days is now a Dutch citizen. So of course he brought us to the delish @restaurantbreda for reinvented Dutch food.

Personal fave: Celeriac ice-cream on toasted hazelnuts

Highlights: oysters with dashi, smoked mackerel, leek ash soup, Jerusalem artichoke with burrata taken in Restaurant BREDA by @vicfoodarchives

Last night's dinner @lenclume :
Delicious morsels, perfectly synchronised service.

What made it even better: the company of my parents all the way from Singapore.

Highlights: beetroot tart, smoked mackerel, oxtail ragout (in little sacks 😍), the anvil (miso caramel + apple pieces) taken in L'Enclume by @vicfoodarchives

A drizzle became a downpour that weekday afternoon when EG and I very spontaneously nipped into @andazsingapore for tea without any prior reservation. Very fittingly, the high tea theme for that month was Japan.

Chatting over Japanese food, especially Izakaya bites, is our regular thing.

The secret to a good bowl of miso soup must be fresh seaweed and seafood, because we both agreed this was the most delicious rendition of miso soup we ever had. taken in Andaz Singapore by @vicfoodarchives

💔 to hear of @bundits_uk putting up the shutters at the shore.

Thanks for giving my hubby a happy stag night in 2021.

And thanks also for a comforting lunch of duck hoisin and Korean beef baos in 2022. I was feeling homesick and down after a job interview at Leith but the baos there made everything better. They reminded me that there are always new things to enjoy in a faraway place. taken in Bundits Edinburgh by @vicfoodarchives

On @food_coffee.life 's recc, I had solo lunch @kelpglasgow .

It made me think of friends back home who would have loved this too.

Must eats: coley, whipped scallop roe & oysters

Spring half term break has been a sobering one. Some days I feel like I'm floating through life pleasantly, albeit without aim. Other days, it's all speed ahead with work at school and tutoring. I'm still thinking a lot about what's next in life. I remind myself Bram Stoker didn't publish 'Dracula' till he was in his forties. taken in Kelp by @vicfoodarchives

Lunch for one was how I decompressed last November. Got shown to a lovely corner table near the window where I could people watch.

Mango chicken and mango lassi - you see the theme there.

And garlic naan, as always.

Regret: not going for dessert but was absolutely stuffed

Better yet: company in the form of EG on video call and I got to walk him down Princes Street to catch a glimpse of the Christmas Market after. taken in Rubab Indian Cuisine by @vicfoodarchives
