Y’all… it doesn’t get any fresher than this. 🤤🍅🐟

The tomatoes? Vicki grew them in her own backyard. 🌱

The tilefish? Caught by some local boys and cut just the other day. That’s the kind of freshness you can actually taste.

Let’s start from the beginning….some time in early to mid July my Momma would wake me at 4:30am and send me to the dock to meet my Granddaddy Capt’n Hughes Tillett & Grandmomma Sessie to get the first light tow. I could see the lights from home dancing on the water as we tossed over the tickle chain then the tailbag and lastly the doors that would give me a fit as they were bigger than me. Grabbing the tow line and making sure it stayed somewhat taugh. Hauling back was always my favorite….what will we get?!?! In a kids mind all things are possibly and somehow i was never disappointed. We would stay out all morning until the tail bag got light. Returning to the dock and freezing all shrimp tails that wouldd be oh so tasty all year long! I did however get to keep a handful to use for bait when fishing. Now, time to waut until 5 pm when my parents would get home from work. We would load up my Dads boat ( the Penn Yann shown above) and head out to shrimp the night away. Same rules apply for evening shrimping with sunset tow being the best of the night.

My reason for the walk down memory lane is the HB 442that is up for vote on Tuesday of this week. I have shrimped my whole life and now that is up to be taken from me and all of the folks like me in N.C. lets not forget the folks that do just as we did as a family and put shrimp up to feed their families. And shall we also think about the commercial shrimpers that make their living on the water? The fish houses that also make their living buying from the commercial folks? Now, bring me back into the picture with our family restaurant that has bought N.C. shrimp to sell inside our building for 30 years!

I have so much more to say but let’s get to the point….i ask you to please help us all and MAKE YOUR VOICE BE HEARD! Call, write, mail, text, email or show up and ask our state leaders to please KEEP SHRIMPING ALIVE in N.C.! #noimportedshrimpinNC

I am so proud of these native outer bankers! Daughters/Granddaughters of local waterman/water gals they just took and passed the Coast Guard boaters safety class! Now they can legally drive a boat in the waters that have been their playground since birth! 12-13 years old and ready for their own boats! I used to be sad when oyster season ended…
Until my best friend @vickdawg1 started inviting me up to help her with #softshellcrab season!

I SO look forward to the month of April so I can come up and help out my girl! I learn so much from her every time we work together. We both take so much pride in what we do- providing fresh #NC shellfish and fish of the highest quality.
