As I listen to my audio books at my studio desk, I become engrossed in little gold lustre dots. I start thinking I’ll add just one more little line of dots, then the book takes me away to another place and I feel like I have all the time in the world to keep adding more patterns, more dots …

Keith found a friendly BIG penguin in Penguin, then later that night we spotted some real fairy penguins in Burnie; Cradle Mountain enchanted walk; us at CM; the CM peaks; pandani curls; Dove Lake Boatshed; a feast of wildlife: pademelons, Tasmanian Devils, Eastern quolls and wombats; gorgeous trees of every shape and size; fungi; Zeehan and its amazing buildings including the West Coast Heritage Centre - a crazy rock collection, old crucibles, Crocoite, an old Masonic temple; then on to Seaforth Shack (near Strahan) with a turntable that we played The Sounds of Silence on; and soft reflections nearby.

Gold lustre dots! I’ve always enjoyed listening to audio books or podcasts as I become lost in creating dot patterns with my teeny, tiny applicator tool. It’s a tool I’ve owned for 30 years or so … can you see my strand of hair keeping the tube clear? The small bottle of lustre is held safely by blutack in the glass dish … essential for avoiding spills. Just a small blob of gold lustre on the end of a skewer, dropped into the tool receptacle is enough for hundreds of dots …

My mother-in-law, Anne, passed away on Friday morning aged 96. We’ve known one another a long time, starting in the early to mid-1970s (first photo) when Keith and I started going out. The second photo shows the three of us about a month ago at Centennial Park cafe, where Anne enjoyed a huge bowl of her favourite dessert, Tiramisu, while sending messages on her mobile phone, full of smiles. She was an interesting and complex person, loved the latest gadgets, and, over the 50+ years I knew her, she read my biorhythms, my tarot cards, my palms. She also tried to hypnotise me at one stage, unsuccessfully. Many decades ago, we helped her & John boost the Rosicrucianism cult of the ancient Egyptian goddess Isis, by dressing up as followers(!!!) ... I have so many funny, yet weird memories. To be honest, she was an enigma to me. She is resting now, somehow, somewhere ... XX by @vickigrima

We have lived in our beautiful 1920’s home for almost 47 years, high on a hill, built from solid brick with a gorgeous front verandah. One sunny day, back in September 2003, we had a surprise visit by the relatives of Mr Edwards, the old fellow who lived (and died) in the house. My exhibition, Tea Stories held at Mura Clay Gallery in 2005, was based on this special afternoon spent with the many family members who ended up inside enjoying a cuppa. I will never forget that beautiful afternoon.

It was then that we learned the house had been given the name Arabanoo, proudly identified by a pressed metal sign made by the owner, and taken by the family when the house was sold to us in 1979. 😢

Arabanoo was a Cammeraygal man kidnapped in December 1788 at the command of Governor Arthur Philip. He was said to be a gentle, courteous and kind person. According to Captain Watkin Tench, his kidnapping was a last ditch effort by Philip to find a mediator between the British and the Eora clans. But this was not to be, as he died of smallpox on 18 May 1789 after helping nurse 2 smallpox victims.

I have recently starting painting again, primarily to recycle some old canvases originally featuring chillis, for an exhibition at the Inner City Clayworkers Gallery in 2002. I am now enjoying focussing on memories and personal stories, using photos as references. I wanted to be loose with the paint application, but have had to accept I am obsessed with detail.

The first photo is of my finished painting. If you look closely at the second photo (my reference for the painting), you’ll see Rusty’s feet on the top step, behind the tree. The other photos show the original Arabanoo sign, the current Arabanoo sign and the mosaic I made about the family visit in 2003.

I wanted to paint my memories of our backyard shed (1979-2018), so I gathered some photos. I only found a few - a Xmas water fight (Margi, Trent and Tim), an and Tim jumping under the backyard shower. I built it up slowly, changing the trees, the garden, the hose etc. Somehow, I was only happy once I had added in Tim jumping.
.
The shed was here when we bought the house in 1979, so was probably close to 100 years old when we sadly had to demolish due to wood rot and borers.

I am thrilled to have one of my works chosen for CONTINUUM, and would love to see you at the opening on 17 July.

CONTINUUM is a TACA Members’ Exhibition, in partnership with Noosa Regional Gallery
18 July – 13 September 2026
Noosa Regional Gallery, 9 Pelican St, Tewantin QLD 4565
Opening Friday 17 July, 6–8pm

My work, Go West 1, is a record of a 9-day journey across Australia from Sydney to Fremantle in 2025. The sequence of days – from crossing mountain ranges to camping riverside to canola farms and flat dry plains, to the outback and the western coast – blended into one beautiful, long thread of memories. The rich and varied landscapes enveloped us, drawing our van along 4500 kms of bitumen with its dotted white lines, until suddenly we arrived. After a time spent at our hard-won destination, the return to Sydney by a 4-hour flight seemed somehow wrong. This story is imbedded into the form.

The exhibition features 90 small artworks by TACA members.

What an amazing time we have had raising funds for FOSTER A POTTER at our first Potters Retreat and Woodfiring!

A group of us have just completed a 5-day retreat at Denbigh – glazing, stacking, firing, making, playing, constructing, talking, eating, resting, observing, swimming, sharing, assessing and so much more.

Our first day started with glazing using 4 gorgeous glazes prepared by Susie McIntosh – chun, shino, white salt and Denbigh ash. Jean led the tight pack, squeezing in as many pots as possible. Up early and following a roster, we enjoyed a one-day woodfiring in Olive, the Olsen fast-fire kiln, built at Denbigh last year by Steve Williams. While the kiln cooled, we had a day of experimental throwing (led by Jean McMaster) and some pinching (led by me, Vicki Grima). This was followed by a day of making our very own timber and metal tools with David Hawkes and James. What a treat!

Denbigh is one of Australia’s oldest working farms (circa 1812). The rural setting is divine, and the old hay shed was the gathering place for our meals and lots of long chats.

Thanks everyone! 😊🔥❤️
