📻 This is Sonny, I met him in Glasgow. He used to live on the streets after falling into homelessness. Now, he works as a city guide for @invisiblecitiestours which was founded by Zakia, who is standing to his left. Sonny showed me and my @bbcradio4 producer, Leela, around the Glasgow he knows so well, from sleeping rough. Invisible cities is a social enterprise which was set up to end rough sleeping by helping people who have experienced it back into work. Sonny now has a social home, where he can shut the door and live in peace. Sonny also did me a huge favour and took me to McLellan Arch in Glasgow, which I’ve always wanted to visit because my Dad’s mum was a McLellan and I’ve been trying to trace her family 📻 Sonny is a proper homelessness expert, hear his message to the UK government in the final episode of my @bbcradio4 series, Housing Britain 📻 Thank you, Sonny 📻 The song is Simple Minds, one of the greatest Glaswegian bands, of course! 📻 by @vicky.spratt

⏰ Get ready for a new podcast which, I hope, you’re going to listen to every week for the next month! I am presenting a new bumper series for @restispolitics : The Gen Z Story ⏰

Young people are swimming upstream. And it affects all of society. I think intergenerational inequality is the most dangerous issue our society faces, it bleeds into everything and has been ignored for too long.

We have an exclusive interview with Angela Rayner, Britain’s former Deputy Prime Minister.

Speaking exclusively to me in the TRIP studio which I was allowed to borrow from Alastair Campbell and Rory Stewart (more from them on this issue soon), Rayner warned, “more and more young people are feeling there isn’t an investment in their future.”

She said that the psychological impact of feeling that homeownership is out of reach and being in permanent debt makes people feel “that they are pushed down, punched down” and is “holding the nation back”.

We also polled the @restispolitics audience because we wanted to know what YOU think. 12,000 people replied. 6,000 of them were Gen Z. They are worried about the future and think social media is isolating people. We’ll explore these results through the series.

Read more @theipaper and tune in tomorrow for episode 1 over @RestIsPolitics with a VERY special guest. So many people who fall into the Gen Z cohort sent us their stories for this series, I really can’t wait for you to hear them. Sharing the link to the article where you can get a flavour of what Angela Rayner thinks in my stories. 🙏🏼 @goalhangerhq 🙏🏼 📻 by @vicky.spratt

Committing this to the grid - my new book 🌙 We Were Promised The Moon 🌙 will be published by @4thestatebooks next summer. It looks at the economic reasons why our lives feel tougher than we may have hoped. It also looks at how things can change. I’d love to hear from you - what challenges are you facing? What about your adult life looks different to how you hoped or expected it would? Fav @rejinapyo top as usual 📸 @isseymg by @vicky.spratt

🗞️ This is not the news… 🗞️ but I am trying something new 🗞️

Because I am always so far behind on posting what I’ve been doing - my writing, the topics I have been covering, the places I’ve travelled and the people I’ve been interviewing.

So, not the news! But the story and statistics behind the story!

Over the last few weeks hundreds of you have sent me questions - about Andy Burnham, about the cost of living…about Europe and the Budget.

So, I’ve made a series of videos to answer them - each is focussed around a key statistic of idea which I hope will go some way to explaining what’s going on in Britain - our politics and economy - right now. I’ll try to post a video at least once a week so we can catch up on what’s been going on and what you want to know about it.

Have you got a question, a thought or idea you’d like me to explore? Let me know!

🇳🇱 why do I keep going to the Netherlands with British politicians? 🇳🇱 and what does it tell us about Britain’s “lost generation” of young people? 🇳🇱

Does the Dutch education, training and employment support system hold clues about what benefits changes are about to come in Britain?

I’ve now been to the Netherlands with Britain’s Work and Pensions Secretary Pat McFadden and, more recently, with Labour’s youth employment chief Alan Milburn.

I’ve seen an education system which is more focussed on technical and vocational training, a youth support system which looks less like British job centres and more like a traditional youth centres @jongerenpunt070 - where pastoral support is available as well as jobs and benefits advice and a country where is almost impossible to drop out of school or work.

Britain currently has almost 1 million NEETs - that’s 16-24 year olds who are not in education, employment or training - does the Dutch system tell us what the future might hold for them? You can read my full report @theipaper by @vicky.spratt

For Halloween this year, I’ve dressed as…the news 🗞️ 👻

I got foundation on a shirt that I’d been wearing all day and panic bought this top in M&S. Worked out well, I think. This is just to say that I have now seen THE @dollyalderton Pride and Prejudice adaptation for @netflixuk and….well….it’s quite incredible. Coming 🔜 ❤️ what a writer our gal is ❤️ by @vicky.spratt

“Boring”. That’s what everyone said John Healey’s first Budget as Chancellor would be.

But not so if you’re a younger adult currently working and trying to build a life, career, a family, or a home, says The i Paper's housing and society correspondent @vicky.spratt.

Stealth tax rises on young adults in work will continue under this Labour Government. by @vicky.spratt

Andy Burnham has done something no Prime Minister has wanted or felt able to do since we voted for Brexit in 2016 and said he personally thinks Britain should rejoin the European Union and would like to see that happen in his lifetime. I first started covering Britain’s troubled relationship with Europe in 2012. It’s a conversation that has been going on for decades. How much longer will we need to keep having it? Why is it so hard to make a decision about whether or not we want to be part of Europe? Here’s some context and, also, analysis of why this could be a tricky one for Labour…..what do you think? What else do you want to know? The documentary I mentioned here is called This Eurosceptic Isle and it’s still available on BBC Sounds. by @vicky.spratt

Rent going *down* is something most renters have only ever dreamt of. But for some, the Renters' Rights Act may be making it a reality.

Vicky Spratt explains how in the case of Ana from Manchester, a newly appointed tribunal ended up lowering her rent by £200 a month, and the implications this could have for the rental market as a whole. by @vicky.spratt

"Older generations completely let young people down," says The i Paper's Housing and Society Correspondent @vicky.spratt.

More than a million young people in the UK are now NEETs - Not in Employment, Education or Training. Prime Minister Andy Burnham has called the situation a "catastrophe."

But what is the Government actually doing to change things? by @vicky.spratt
