You raised them. But who raised you?

I think one of the things we don’t talk about enough is how much the firstborn daughter can quietly grow into responsibilities she never planned for.

You are still figuring yourself out, but there are people looking up to you.

So you learn to be careful. You learn to consider everyone. You make sacrifices. You try to be a good example. You become strong because, somehow, there is always someone who needs you to be.

And years pass.

Then you look at your life and realise how much of it has been spent thinking about everyone else.

Not with regret.

I love them. I really do. And I am grateful for the woman those years helped me become.

But I am also learning that loving people does not mean forgetting yourself.

There is still a life I want to live. A woman I am still discovering. Dreams, desires, experiences and even parts of myself I am only now giving room to know.

So to the firstborn daughter who has spent years being everything for everyone…

please remember yourself too.

You are allowed to grow beyond the role you had to play.

And if you’re finding your way back to yourself, don’t rush it.

Somewhere between who everyone needed you to be and who you are becoming, there is still you. 🤍

Today, I’m not celebrating a client. I’m celebrating one of the women who inspires me deeply… a woman who has been a mother figure, a mentor, and a spiritual leader in my life.

PL, I love you so much, and I will never hesitate to show it, honour you, and celebrate you at every given opportunity. Thank you for being such a beautiful example of grace, wisdom, strength, and faith.

One thing I’ve had to learn the hard way is that not everyone defines friendship the way I do.

If I call you my friend, I naturally start treating you like family. I celebrate you, check on you, defend you, and make room for you in my life.

Over time, I’ve realized that not everyone carries friendships with that same depth and that’s okay. It doesn’t make them bad people, but it has taught me to be more intentional with my heart.

I’m still kind. I’m just learning that family access is earned, not automatic. 🤍

The strongest women I know all have one thing in common:

They learned too early that if they didn’t do it, nobody would.

First daughters don’t volunteer for leadership.

We inherit it.

We become responsible before we’re ready.
Independent before we’re asked.
Strong before we have a choice.

Then people mistake the survival skills we developed for our personality.

That’s why so many of us are misunderstood.

Where my First Daughters at 🙋🏽‍♀️😅

People think first daughters are “too independent” or “too strong.”
But many of us became that way because responsibility met us early.

We struggle with delegating because when you’re used to being dependable, delays feel uncomfortable.
You ask for help… then end up doing it yourself because your brain already calculated how fast it should’ve been done.

It’s not pride all the time.
Sometimes it’s conditioning.
Sometimes it’s survival.
Sometimes it’s years of being “the responsible one.”

And honestly?
A lot of first daughters are tired. Quietly tired.

But we’re learning that rest is not weakness, and asking for help shouldn’t feel unsafe.

It’s honestly strange looking back now and realizing how certain things that once confused me suddenly make sense in this season of my life.

I grew up hearing I was supposed to become a pharmacist.
And although it didn’t fully connect with me then, I still obeyed because I trusted my parents and the prophecy they believed they received.

But somehow… even through all of that, fashion never left me.

Now my pastor keeps teaching about identity and purpose, and I can finally see something clearly:

God has a way of leading you toward what He placed inside you, even when you don’t fully understand it yet.

And today, standing fully in styling and fashion design, I realize this is not random talent for me.
This is alignment.

The beautiful part is realizing I’m not just doing it…
I’m excellent at it.

And for the first time in a long time, everything feels connected.
