Marc used to always say, “Buckets is going to outlive everyone in this house.”

My first dog. My first love. My first best friend. Buckets.

Sunday morning, Laura’s name popped up on my phone, and I knew I was going to hear words I would never be prepared to hear.

April 14, 2016 is a day that changed my life forever, because without Buckets, there wouldn’t have been a Dunkin, and there wouldn’t have been a Rupert.

Buckets wasn’t just our dog. He was our world. He was fiercely protective, ridiculously funny, and loved unconditionally in a way I had never experienced before him. Every chewed shoe, couch and floor molding was worth it. Every minute he made me late for work because he decided it was a good idea to run into the woods was worth it. Every bark at the tv causing us to rewind was worth it.

To say this week has been hard is an understatement. I lost a very large piece of me, but I’m finding comfort in knowing his brothers and sisters welcomed him across that rainbow bridge with bright eyes and tails wagging.

An entire decade with you. I love you so much. I can’t wait to see you again.
