Yes, someone looks happy in their Instagram posts. But it doesn’t mean everything is good. I like this viral trend, and I hope people will share more of their real struggles instead of showing only their perfect lives.

Are you interested in literature, live in the Bergen area, and stand with Ukraine? Here are several events at I recommend checking out 👇

Given that Russia has destroyed around 15 million books in Ukraine over the past two months, I think it is especially important to support Ukrainian literature and writers.

September 16, 17:00 — meet @yara_chornohuz, a Ukrainian servicewoman and poet, at @bergenbibliotek. She will talk about her experience of war as a woman and a poet. She is also a recipient of the Shevchenko Prize, Ukraine’s highest state award for contributions to culture and the arts. Admission is free.

The following events take place at @litthusbergen, and tickets are available on their website.

October 13, 19:00 — @mykhed author of several novels and works of documentary literature and a regular contributor to The Guardian. His book The Language of War covers the first thirteen months of Russia’s full-scale invasion.

October 23, 19:00 — Sofija Andrukhovytsj. Her novel Amadoka has been translated into thirteen languages, including English and Norwegian. It explores Ukraine’s complex history, from WWII and Soviet repressions to the Russo-Ukrainian War in Donbas.

All the meetings with the writers will be held in English and moderated by @ingunnl, Professor at the Department of Foreign Languages at the University of Bergen.

Also recommend checking out.

September 15, 19.00 — @oystein.bogen presents his new book Fritt Ukraina. Norske frivilliges kamp for Europas fremtid. Together with @nataliaantoniagolis and @kvaleole, he will discuss the Norwegian volunteers and organisations supporting Ukraine’s fight for freedom.

October 26, 19:00 — a meeting with Rory Finnin, a leading scholar of Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar literature and a professor at the University of Cambridge. He is the author of “Blood of Others: Stalin’s Crimean Atrocity and the Poetics of Solidarity” and, most recently, “Freedom’s Liberator: Taras Shevchenko and the Making of Modern Ukraine”, a new monograph on Ukraine’s national poet, Taras Shevchenko. taken in Litteraturhuset i Bergen by @victorialevada

14-15 million books have been burnt due to Russian attacks on Ukrainian printing houses and book warehouses in 2026 alone. A third of Ukraine’s entire book market has been destroyed in just a couple of months.

Dictators throughout history have always tried to destroy books. Empires have always tried to erase the literature and language of the people they colonized. They are afraid of well-educated people who refuse to consume their propaganda.

Back then, in the Russian Empire and the USSR, even translating intellectuals and dissidents from other countries into Ukrainian was prohibited. Now Russia cannot prohibit it directly, so it is destroying everything.

I want to ask you to support Ukrainian authors. Please listen to our voices. Don’t let Russia speak over us.

So, let me introduce some of my favourite Ukrainian books that have been translated into other languages.

PS1: Some titles may differ from the ones I have written here, as they were adapted for certain countries.

PS2: Some translations are still in progress, and there might also be mistakes in the number of translations, as different sources provide different information.
