Since there are a lot of new people here lately (Welcome!) I figured I’d say hello by sharing a quick behind the scenes look from my shoot with Kate Winslet

This was a fast moving portrait session with very little time, which honestly is often when instinct and trust matter most. I shot this on my @canonusa Canon EOS R5 Mark II, paired mainly with the 28-70mm f/2, along with a @profoto B20 and an Octa fitted with an Edge Mask to help shape and control the light quickly inside the space.
I also mention my not so secret favorite portrait lens in this reel. Spoiler: it’s not the traditional 85mm 1.2.

Anyway, hello, and thanks for being here. Also thank you to @canonusa and @profoto_usa for all the support now and over the years.

Meet @victoriawill, portrait photographer and EAW volunteer since 2009. She produces the portfolio reviews and has seen firsthand what happens when photographers sit down with top editors and get honest feedback.

The entire @canonusa USA team will be on-site all weekend with their full lineup of cameras and lenses, free for students to use. You just need to show up.

I’m endlessly appreciative of my Carhartt family for trusting me to direct and photograph this story, and to Bethany Yellowtail and her family for welcoming us into her home and community with such generosity. It was an honor to witness her artistry and the deep connection she carries to land, people, and tradition.

A huge thank you to my brilliant DP Andrew Wheeler @wheels41215, my patient editor Wes Langdon @supervibrant and our tireless crew who braved the bitter cold with so much heart and talent. None of this happens without the dedication and creativity of a skilled team like this, and the unending generosity of the local people of Wyoming and Montana who welcomed us so openly.

I’m excited for everyone to spend a little time with Bethany’s story.

Eighty years is an accomplishment in itself. But when you consider everything Cher has done across music, film, and fashion it feels almost impossible to measure. Few people cross boundaries and shape culture while remaining unmistakably true to themselves all at once. Fewer still do it for generations.

Stuart Campbell and Mitchell Robertson are special. Individually, they each carry something distinctive. Together, though, there’s a kind of chemistry that feels increasingly uncommon.

Before hearing so much about the intensity and emotional force of their performances in HBO’s Half Man, I already had the sense they possessed something rare.

What stayed with me most after our shoot for the @latimes was the connection between them. There was an unspoken understanding and trust that gave the photographs the level of intimacy I am always searching for.

Some people simply possess that “it” factor. They both certainly do. My guess is we’ll be seeing a lot more of these guys very soon.

Here is the director’s cut of the Carhartt film I shared last fall. This is a longer version built from some footage I LOVE that was cut for time, (see the new ending!!) with more room to sit with the Crow Nation and the world surrounding @byellowtail. Set to an original score by composer @OllieChanin.

Thank you to Bethany and her incredible family for their openness and trust, and to my DP @wheels41215 and my editor @supervibrant for helping steer the creative ship with such clarity and instinct.
