Press: Review
A Superlative Collaboration of Art, Music, and Dance at the SB Museum of Art.
The SB Independent by Jatila van der Veen.

“… it worked spectacularly. American jazz has its roots in African music, with the call-and-response patterns found there prominently featured in jazz. Isaac’s roots in Afro-Brazilian dance and music, as well as contemporary dance, connected perfectly with the piece she chose. The meticulous balance between synchronicity and asynchronicity, between harmony and juxtaposition, in her choreography were perfect expressions of the musicians’ performance.”

“Isaac is skilled in so many dance genres; her smooth-like-velvet style was beautifully complemented by Hartanov’s raw power. They were a perfectly matched duet, and I hope to see more of their collaborations in the future.

Everything turns: the body, the earth, time, memory. What we call return may simply be another encounter with what has never left us.

First rehearsal for the @vidancecompany season felt so wonderful and we want to share with you a tiny little clip. We started movement exploration for the company and want to see where the dance will take us. We invite you to come with us. Léa is already hard at work here in the @sbdancehub with me. We are exhausted, since we both just got to Cali, but we are happy! by @vidancecompany

Frida Memories. Musician Rebecca Kleinmann @rebeccakleinmannmusic and I for the cover of Casa Magazine. I felt honored to pay tribute to Frida Kahlo. A talented latina woman and extraordinary artist who continues to inspire me through her courage, imagination, and uncompromising artistic voice.

California 🌳 What happens between our bodies and the places we enter? We tend to think that we are the ones looking. We look at a tree, a landscape, the ocean. We move through a space and experience it. But what if the relationship is not so one-sided?

I’m fascinated by the possibility that the living world is responding to us too. Even more, aware of our presence. That our presence matters.

That the way we touch the ground, move through a place, pay attention to it, perhaps changes something, even in ways we cannot see.

There is ancient knowledge in many cultures about this kind of reciprocity. The understanding that land, plants, animals and human beings are not separate worlds, but part of an ongoing relationship.

When I dance I want to listen to the space. To let movement meet what is already there. Knowing that the space is meeting me too.

Maybe, in its own way, the land is looking back at us. And I love that possibility.

A few moments from Panducada Dance Film Project.
