Yesterday I felt the first signs of life breathing back into the shop. The full moon, the dark streets filled with laughter and music, the fall air, crisp enough to need a jacket by the end of the night. The locals experience intimate reminders that life is always here in the desert ~ in the creosote after the rain, the towering saguaros reaching towards the sun, the flowers that appear after the monsoon, hiking down Tumamoc in the dark after admiring the sunset. And it’s also amazing to welcome a wave of new faces, eager to experience the beauty of the Southwest too. An already wonderful day ended on an even higher note with these amazing photographs by my friend Mark at @forlove.withlove. Check out his page and give him a follow. When I think about what draws me into a shop, it’s the displays and how I feel when I’m in the space. At Viejo Goods, I’m always trying to create a sense of timelessness, of awe over the kinds of things that have held up the longest, despite decades of use. My hope is that my guests can find things that feel comfy and lived in, yet also sophisticated and unique (not always an easy line to walk). Being a picky Libra probably helps 🥴.
