Some thougths on #Priscilla in EN and for the 1st time in this microblog in FRšŸ‡«šŸ‡· too.

I recently saw that Sofia Coppola is 52 years old. As an author, director, and creator of a wine brand, having done what she has done, no matter how nepobaby it is called, seems incredible. I have always loved the subtext that his films have beneath all those pastel tones and silk lights. However, it does not appear in Priscilla. Having seen #Elvis (2022) so recently, I already knew roughly his relationship with the singer, which made the film grey for me.

šŸ”I’m just going to say that this is a great mini series that could have easily been a movie, meaning: is a great, great thriller. Well, is probably a bit outdated for the big screen right now as people only want to go to see big special effects, but that is another matter...

šŸ“The Undoing may seem
from the outside as something we have already watched: there is a murder, everyone is a suspect, a marriage is falling apart, a woman is been neglected, the story is all about the rich people
of Manhattan having everything in the palm of their hands... But is so well told, and Nicole Kidman carries her character masterfully (she is a tormented woman, dealing with extremely difficult situations but, is not ā€œCelesteā€, from #BigLittleLies, no worries).

šŸ’”Also to see Hugh Grant on a dark thriller is also a surprise, his usual sarcastic tone turns into a very discreet but interesting performance. The story is very, very simple but there a lot of twists that will have your mind making a lot of theories about the person who committed the murder. Also it has this photography where we are the camera, and makes you feel even more present on the scene. Close ups and a bit of ASMR, get you in total ā€œdetectiveā€ mood.

ā•Though the ending may seem rushed and actually is not at the level of the previous episodes (I’ll just say, ā€œhelicopterā€), there is a reason of why we arrive with such high expectations to that point.

šŸ—½Beyond the entertainment I got from it (I watched in one day), it makes me wonder about the position of this kind of TV and how there is no other way of seeing this kind of stories but on streaming... do you remember the last big drama or pure thriller you went to watch to the cinema ? It’s quite difficult now, right ?

✨Nevertheless, I would love to continue seeing this kind of stories that have such good writing and acting that even with some holes in it, you become capable of leaving your phone aside, which is the real
accomplishment.

āš”ļøSide note: Nicole Kidman can be a ā€œfragile middle aged womanā€ as many times as she wants, because she is just THE best. And for the Moulin Rouge fans: she sings the song of the intro...🌟 taken in New York, New York by @vienotrose

šŸ° If #TheCrown wasn’t set in the contemporary era, we would think of it as a twisted experiment. Sometimes is hard to believe there’s people living under rules set centuries ago.

āļøIf there were not real palpable records of it, this show could be seen as a cheap reality show were they testing how much we have evolved. It’s odd. Protocol, ā€œbloodlineā€, heritage, reign... weird concepts to fit in this century. But how fun is to see how hard they try to make them fit.

🌷I tried several times to watch the first 2 seasons, but they seemed a bit dull to me. Then, as most of the people who got into the 4th season, I arrived because of curiosity of the portrayal of princess Diana, which at the end, happened to be not the central character, and you know what? That was great.

✨That is the greatest accomplishment of the show as the narrative makes you have the same amount of interest for any other member of this ā€œfamilyā€. Quotation marks because, the concept and meaning of family is almost impossible to perceive in a group who in its majority is ā€œrelatedā€ but by blood. It’s so artificial and for us to witness it, frankly, is sad. The Crown is about the Queen and only about her; in season 4 is interesting to see how Diana struggles to see it.

🌺If this series was not actually based on real people and facts, we would think that a way of living as the one shown on The Crown is completely mental and beyond outdated. But guess what, is not.

šŸ‘øThe apparent idea that living as a royal means living in a fairy tale is still ā€œa thingā€ nowadays; thanks to a tv show we’re reminded that is exactly the opposite.

šŸ¤“šŸ»Living as a royal means everything but the privilege of being free. You’re rich, but what for ? ā€œTo serve othersā€?

šŸ‘¼The minute you’re born you have a duty, but what if you don’t want it ? Too late, you won’t be able to run away. Well, in fact, yes you can. Greetings, Prince Harry.

From season 4, I passed to the 3rd, and then the 1st and now I’m on the 2nd. I’m just fascinated reading every Wikipedia page of the characters I don’t know anything about and to be honest, learning a couple of things of world history. Yes, my sources are Netflix and Wikipedia.

#BabyNetlix

šŸ‘ÆOh, these - poor fragile - babies...Based on a real life scandal, this show is the perfect teenage angst tale. Totally intense and dramatic, the plot treats a very serious issue and is probably the realness it depicts what maintains your interest during three seasons.

šŸ’” I’ve heard people compares it to #Elite, but the vibe is much, much closer to #Euphoria. Yes, I’ve made that comment. Baby is not repetitive, but insightful, it doesn’t evoque joy but sadness, is not a fantasy, but a very raw story. It feels like an intense 2007’s secret Tumbler diary brought to life.

šŸ‘Ludovica and Chiara are two high school students from an elite institute of Rome, they’re so lonely and awfully mistreated by their closest ones that, simply they decide to get into prostitution with the purpose of getting whatever trace of love they can.

šŸ‘©šŸ»Of course we’re introduced to a typical teen- privilege universe: they have very nice cars, beautiful houses, parents are the most influential politicians... but, surprisingly that is just ornaments. You get into the minds of this girls, and oh, they’re so lost, and is interesting to watch how everyone is too selfish to care for them. Ugh, no one can be trusted.

šŸ’„These ā€˜babies’ are all abandoned, broken souls that have very exciting adventures. Parties, scooters, secrets, first love, anxiety... and Rome. You’ll think you have passed your first course of italian, and of course you’ll try to read everything about the real story. Only 3 very short seasons, but intense enough to love them forever. Are they the perfect material to reopen my Tumblr account ? taken in Rome, Italy by @vienotrose

#QueensGambit. šŸ‘ø ā™Ÿ Having become a tv fan during the pre-streaming era, nowadays I think a show is good when I think of how it would have done if broadcasted on a weekly basis, like in the ā€œoldā€ times. So, would I have fervently waited every week for #QueensGambit ? Yes.Ā

Leaving aside all the positive comments I heard about it, I had very high hopes on #QueensGambit because of Anya Taylor - Joy, who mesmerized me on Split, and with this, she doesn’t disappoint ✨

I assume that 95% of the viewers of this series have no idea about chess, and they don’t really care about it. This story gets interesting because of its lead and her incredible development. There are not many characters, but the presence of Beth Harmon is more than enough.Ā

šŸ’” Beth is not exactly charming, nor funny, she’s a profoundly wounded person trying to survive in a world that doesn’t necessarily like her, they like her intelligence, but who loves ā€œherā€ ? And she tries, she tries so hard to prove she’s more than a chess prodigy. Ā

Are we the viewers the ones who really care for her ? #poorBeth, poor bright, elegant, gorgeous girl…

I got hooked to #QueensGambit not only because of the chess tournaments and to discover this extremely competitive - only men - world that she has to navigate all alone, but because I wanted to see how she was going to heal and overcome the little by little unveiled traumas.Ā

ā™ŸIs amazing how a show that spends a good amount of the time showing chess tournaments, it's at the end, not about chess, but about loneliness. Is anyone going to help Beth or she’s gonna have to do everything by herself her whole life ?

šŸ‚Beth’s relationships (as toxic and unstable as they are), are very interesting, because, how selfish is everyone ?! Also, how good is to watch Beth’s strength while confronting them, of course, it is equally hard to see her failing at that and crumbling, but… who could have handled that much rejection without going crazy?Ā  Ā ā¬‡ļøā¬‡ļøā¬‡ļøā¬‡ļøā¬‡ļøā¬‡ļøā¬‡ļøā¬‡ļø taken in Lexington, Kentucky by @vienotrose

šŸ—½#Borat Subsequent Moviefilm: Delivery of Prodigious Bribe to American Regime for Make Benefit Once Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan 🄵.

šŸ‘I watched this film a few days ago, and of course you laugh hysterically. But is a nervous laugh because this fiction is not that fictional and actually, is scary how real it is. A few hours lately I’m suddenly not laughing that much obviously...

🧠 I don’t consider myself a political person, I would say that I have a strong social consciousness that makes me want to be always informed, because that’s the best way you can understand others. Thatā€˜s why I liked the first Borat and I truly enjoyed it’s « subsequentĀ Ā» film, because it’s a whole study on how selfish, self-centered and intolerant some people can be, and we actually can laugh about it ! šŸ˜…Because is funny and sad at the same time. Mostly sad at the end, indeed.

ā–¶ļø I was amazed again by Sacha Baron Cohen’s hability to involve this people and expose them in such a subtle way. It must be very hard to see them falling in it so easily, after all, more than 10 years away from the 1st movie, our society has become even more cynical.

It may be extremely cringey watch the fertility dance of Borat’s daughter in a debutant’s ball or her ā€œnaiveā€ talk about masturbation in a room full of republican women, but those confrontations are worth seeing because all in all, even if this is somehow planned, reactions are completely real, and you realise that is funny and also super scary. Is this better than the 1st one ? Not really because that was the pioneer, but the way the writers were able to even put the pandemic, and the #MeToo movement without looking repetitive or pointless, is brilliant. How did they do to expose Giuliani and why we’re no talking more about it !

Fiction is suddenly real and more real than never. People don’t care, they don’t like to think and see beyond their noses, because it’s always easier. It’s always easier not being political and blame the other. But, thank you Sacha Baron Cohen for making us uncomfortable enough that we may want to think a little more and care about women’s rights, race, discrimination, freedom, work rights...about politics šŸ’” taken in United States of America by @vienotrose

#LovelifešŸ‘©ā€ā¤ļøā€šŸ‘Ø Not long ago I talked here about Amazon’s #ModernLove, which for me was quite forced and not that moving, it wanted to pass as indie-like but they tried too hard, now #Lovelife, well, THIS IS the real #ModernLove. I had just subscribed to the streaming service that has all HBO shows available to watch in šŸ‡«šŸ‡· because I wanted to replay some Girls, Euphoria, or even Game of Thrones, but also, to discover shows like this one. I feel the title may be too literal, and a bit misleading, as you would immediately think of it as a bubbly and superficial story. But, no, this is HBO. Love life is about a very, very normal life. Anna Kendrick is Darby, and we’re about to get to know all her love history and for sure we’ll find something about us in her adventures. #Lovelife is a series about someone’s love life without romanticizing it; it has its sweet and corny moments, but they just add some color; don’t know how they did to find that balance, but: mission accomplished. āœ…
The tone of the show is magnificent, we’re here not to judge her, nor criticize her choices but observe how love affects us and how our capacities for loving are all different. When this story starts, is with a very naive #Darby, but naive as we all are, nothing above the line. The biggest virtue of the main character is that she is NORMAL. A-LE- LU - YA. And you know why she’s normal? Because she doesnt like the truth and facing problems, but who does ? Derby is not looking for the guy of her dreams - if anything her professional path seems more important -, she is not expecting to be engaged or thinking all the time about the perfect date. This girl is not excentric, nor shallow or annoying, nor superficial or dull. She is normal !!! She’s not the funny one, or the sassy one (a character Anna Kendrick has almost been typecasted with), she’s not depressed, she’s not toxic. She has issues, common ones. But common doesn’t mean easy, and that’s the interesting part. We get to know her partners, her friends, her parents, her past (wow, that flashback of her teenage years on 2006), but also, her fears, her goals… everything perfectly justified and on exact doses. ā¬‡ļøContinues ā¬‡ļø taken in New York, New York by @vienotrose

#EmilyInParis šŸ‘—šŸ„Season 1. ā€œThis is the story about a #modern american girl who dreams, who loves, who fails, who triumphs in the city of love & lightsā€. That’s what I think the writers of this series would describe it, and OK, but for the ā€˜modern’ part. I don’t know if it’s enough to fullfill the screens - and expectations - of even it’s target audience. Let me explain myself. I know a few Emilies, and I know a few parisians too. As a bonus, I myself moved to Paris very young (24), naive, all full of energy and blinded by the beautiful architecture and patisserie. I had also lived in a chambre de bonne (not as big and nice as Emily’s but with an spectacular view too), also been treated awfully because I don’t speak french or I don’t have perfect native pronunciation. Yes, Emily has a point, but do we want to see it AGAIN ? And why be so arrogant and even snobbish with Emily avoiding the metro ? Maybe all that exuberant charisma of Lilly Collins is not enough. Is unfair for the series to say ā€œthis is only for ā€˜people’ that liked #GossipGirlā€ or ā€œThis is just for girlsā€, because in theory it shouldn’t be only that, it should have something else… that’s where I think it looses itself, because clichés are bearable, but don’t have to be that literal. As an example, I’ll put a series that has enormous success in France (and that is actually on Netflix), ā€œ10 pour centā€; here, the french smoke, cheat, they put obstacles to each other, they’re quite vile… but thet don’t say ā€œhey, we’re parisians, we’re the worstā€, which is what EmilyIn… does (let’s not talk about that dinner dialogue and the whole coq au vin ā€œjokeā€). Is this series accurate about parisians? Not in a 100 %. Do we care ? Not in a 100%. But we should care or want more. There is some true on a cliché, but again, not everything in this life has to be black or white.Ā  There is nothing wrong into seen the adventures of someone with a very high salary in Paris (because even if it’s not the majority, they exist), just make them a little more interesting ? I’ll go back to Gossip Girl, obviously we knew we couldn’t have those uniforms, but hey [continues in the comments] ā¬‡ļøā¬‡ļøā¬‡ļøā¬‡ļøā¬‡ļøā¬‡ļøā¬‡ļøā¬‡ļøā†•ļø taken in Paris, France by @vienotrose

#Ratched, Season 1. Actually don’t know if it’s really going to be only one season or if it’s a mini series. I caught at the the credits of the beginning that is based on a book. I think... don’t know, a puzzle. One I lost interest in. Set on the 40s, this is the story of a manipulative and damaged but also sad and kind, nurse. Yes, all that...#Ratched was supposed to be scary: checkedāœ”ļø. Beautiful to the eye: checked āœ”ļø, mmm, but only until episode 3. Then intriguing: mmm kind of checkāž—... I was thinking more on it to end than wanting to now if nurse Ratched was going to be happy. That’s it !!! You don’t get that attached to her, it’s too complex, or there is too much going around, to be honest. It could have easily had been American horror Story Season 10. #Ratched, shows that Sarah Paulson is beyond amazing - as well as Cynthia Nixon-, Sharon Stone should get her own series (what if she had been the lead!...) and that there are good, gore dark and - very - twisted stories to tell. Just, decide which of aaaaall the characters is really the main one 😣. Too many are left in the way that don’t even that bright and extremely we’ll dressed nurse šŸ‘—- Mrs. Ratched of course - gets what she deserves. šŸ’„The bangs and strident violence of the first episodes (the first minutes, I mean!) contrast enormously with a second half of the series completely lost in building a story that simply was not there... but what do I know if I get scared with #Chucky. You can forget you read this. Or not. Is this about her relationship with the brother šŸ™ˆ? Female sadic heroines ? Corruption ? Torture ? Mental illness negligence ? This was too much and too little, and viceversa. I’ll use this terrible and awful expression: ā€œfor fans onlyā€. taken in California by @vienotrose

āœØšŸ°Downton AbbeyāœØšŸ—

What’s not to like about an english drama that exaggerates every situation it unfolds, and it’s corny and 80% of the time illogical ? This family and aaaall their servants story - around 15 storylines to follow - is one you don’t want it to end. #Downton, has 6 seasons, but I think I could have easily have watched 10... or more. It was addictive, and we’re talking about stories that we’ve already seen a 1,000 times: women getting repressed, aristrocrats doing nothing but being snobbish, a gay tortured man, affairs between the owner of the house and the maid, a rich young lady who falls in love with one of her servants, a sarcastic funny granny... but it’s the detail on it what makes you crave for more. Another word for ā€˜detail’ is #gossip, of course. This show is not a one to feel inspired to, or a romantic one even if it may seem for all the - arranged- marriages around. Servants are not only servants here, it’s great how their storylines became equally interesting (writing, duh ?); amazing also how they did to rotate the cast and maintain the intrigues on the rest for that long (something that for ex. #GreysAnatomy has massively failed, but there’ll be another post for that trauma). To be honest, probably all historical facts related to the series are wrong or they are not chronologically accurate, but for a mortal like me who don’t exactly knows by heart world history from the beginning of the 20th century, was a joy. A joy I got to have everyday for two weeks, and now no more beautiful garments, no more silly dramas and sudden « car accidentsĀ Ā», social class disagreements, segregation, or social climbers... Any recommendations for historical - non accurate dramas with a despicable lead (#LadyMary is the worst between the worst) that you may have loved ? taken in Yorkshire by @vienotrose

#MarvelousMrsMaisel šŸ’šŸ»ā€ā™€ļøšŸ’šŸŒøšŸ‘›šŸ‘—... As with many series, I had watched the pilot and didn’t continue with the rest. In a way, I’m glad I waited enough to have 3 seasons to devour... and wow, the turns and character development( not a single boring one). Oh Mrs. Maisel, you’re everything they say and more. Pure charm, stunning fashion, fast paced dialogues, sarcasm, wittiness, and just a treat to the eye and ears. Is of course, a show about women’s right to be who they want to be and all the obstacles they’ve been sorting for decades, but is also about understanding that happiness comes in may ways, and families are not supposed to be perfect - just a spoon of empathy and another big one of loyalty are needed - , and we, as young or old as we are, have enough power to become whatever we want no matter the road that lies behind... Yes, I feel that empowered by a fictional story🤭. It’s a fantasy world where money is always present to save the day, but let’s focus on the main idea: we make our own luck. Over all, entertaining and inspiring, also why not? pink, corny, and romantic... lovely show. Let’s not forget, it’s always a pleasure to see how houses, food, social interactions, education, sexuality - I mean the world itself - were 70 years ago... to be honest, from time to time it doesn’t seem that long ago. Progress is a dim concept. Can’t wait for more family chaos on season 4 šŸ˜ taken in New York, New York by @vienotrose
