Every photographer chases dramatic moments.

Sometimes all it takes is a protective mother, a curious kitten, and a few seconds before they disappear back into the shadows.

I came across this pair tucked beneath some bushes and managed to get a few frames before they moved on. Years later, it’s still one of my favourite photographs. Not because it was rare or technically perfect, but because it captured a moment that felt completely unscripted.

Simple, quiet, and gone almost as quickly as it appeared.

One of my favourite photographs I’ve ever taken almost didn’t happen.

I was visiting the outskirts of Dhaka, Bangladesh when we stopped at a small roadside tea stall along the highway. I don’t know why, but before stepping out of the car, I grabbed my camera.

While we were having tea, I noticed this elderly man nearby, still working as a day labourer. His face immediately caught my attention. There was so much character in it, the lines, the expression, the white beard, all shaped by a life I knew absolutely nothing about.

I had my camera ready when, for just a brief moment, we looked at each other.

I pressed the shutter.

No pose. No setup. I never asked his name, and I don’t know anything about the life he had lived before that moment or where the rest of his day took him.

But somehow, all these years later, I still remember that brief encounter.

Photography has a strange way of doing that. A fraction of a second with someone you may never see again can stay with you for years.

And of all the photographs I’ve taken, this one is still one of my favourites.

I have always been afraid of forgetting.
Of moments fading quietly,
of faces and feelings softening with time.

Photography became my way of holding onto them,
a way of protecting what mattered
before it could disappear.

Through the viewfinder, I found a pause.
A moment to notice.
To keep.

I love the camera itself, the mechanics of it.
The weight in my hands,
the turn of the lens,
the click of the shutter,
the brief burst of a flash.
All those small, intentional actions
coming together to hold a moment still.

Everyone may see the same scene,
but no photograph is ever the same.
The frame, the timing, the light, the feeling—
once captured, it can never be replicated.
And once it’s taken,
it belongs only to you.

Long before photography became a pursuit,
it was a habit.
Disposable film cameras.
Simple point-and-shoots.
Tools that taught patience
before they taught control.
Every frame mattered.
You waited.
You hoped.
You trusted the moment
without seeing it right away.

Later, when my parents gifted me
my first DSLR as I began university,
it felt less like an upgrade
and more like a quiet handoff—
a trust placed in how I saw the world.
The tools grew more complex,
but the instinct never changed:
to notice,
to frame,
to keep.

A photograph doesn’t just capture
what was there.
It captures how it felt to be there.
Years later,
a single image can return you
to the exact moment it was taken—
the sounds,
the air,
the emotion.

If one day my memory fails me,
I hope these photographs
will guide me back.
Back to moments I paid attention to.
Back to a life
I tried to remember.

A little color to close out the long weekend. 🎆

Took this during the Labor Day weekend fireworks, and while the sky was obviously the main event, one of my favourite parts of this frame is actually at the bottom.

Two people sitting together, enjoying the show as the sky lights up above them.

Sometimes the people watching become just as much a part of the photograph as the fireworks themselves. 📸

Something a little different for the feed. 🌷

Most of the time my camera is pointed at places, wildlife, cars, or whatever else catches my interest. This time, I got to put two of my favourite people in front of it.

A beautiful setting, some great light, and plenty of moments that didn’t need much direction.

I think I could get used to shooting more of these. 📸

Caught in the middle of a bee-zzz day. 🐝

There’s something really fun about photographing the tiny worlds happening right in front of us. A bee, a flower, and a few seconds where everything lined up just right.

Definitely one of those subjects that makes me appreciate what a camera can reveal up close.

Chasing the full moon. 🌕

I’ve photographed the moon before, but there’s always something satisfying about getting the tripod out, dialing everything in and trying to pull as much detail as possible out of something so far away.

Swipe for the behind-the-scenes, courtesy of my wife @sheikhshama, who apparently decided the photographer needed photographing too. 😂

Architecture gets interesting when you stop looking at the building as a whole.

Lines, layers, repetition, light and shadow. Shift the camera around enough and something completely functional can start looking almost abstract.

This one felt like it belonged in black and white.

Dandelions are surprisingly fun to photograph.

There’s so much detail packed into something so small, and with the right light and a shallow depth of field, all those tiny seeds almost take on a texture of their own.

A simple subject, but a really fun one to get up close with.

There are parts of Highway 1 where getting to the destination almost feels beside the point.

I remember stopping along the coast and looking down at this stretch of cliffs, with the Pacific disappearing into the distance and the afternoon light reflecting off the water.

You pull over for a few minutes, take in the view, grab the camera, and eventually keep driving.

Some of the best parts of a road trip happen between the places you planned to visit.

One courtyard. Different paths.

That’s what caught my eye about this frame. Everything starts from the same little space, but look around and there’s a staircase, a doorway, a gate, each leading somewhere different.

Sometimes the most interesting photographs aren’t of where you’re going, but of all the ways you could get there. taken in Carmel by the Sea by @viewfinder.mh
