A once in a lifetime view ✨️🌿
.
This year has blessed me with many wonderful moments out in the nature. This encounter with the majestic Eurasian lynx, however, remains particularly impressive in my memory and whenever I think of it, I get goosebumps and feel a profound sense of humility.

Because of the Lynx's large territory of up to 250 square kilometers, they are very secretive and move silently. So observing an individual seems almost like finding a needle in a haystack, which makes this sighting all the more heartening. In fact the most special wildlife sighting i could ever encounter.

THIRST FOR LIFE 💧
.
We have spent almost 5 hours observing this majestic leopard, mostly resting in the shade of the tree on its kopje. With the carcass of an impale in the branches of the tree. Just before sunset, he decided to get up and climb over the rock to the nearest waterhole to drink, giving us this impressive and unforgettable sight of a lifetime.

The European Green Woodpeckers (Picus viridis) is often found in pairs or family groups.
.
They communicate with each other by calling frequently. The best-known call is the is the far-carrying, descending territorial song which gives the old name of yaffle.
Rain bird is another name, as the birds are reputed to call more when rain is imminent.
.
Unlike the great spotted woodpecker, the green rarely drums.
Of our 9 species of woodpeckers in Switzerland, the green spends the least amount of time in trees, and can often be seen feeding on the ground. Here it is likely to be digging for ants, its favourite food. It eats both the adults and their eggs, catching them with its exceptionally long and sticky tongue.

The sixteen-spotted ladybird (Halyzia sedecimguttata) is easily recognized by its bright orange coloration marked with sixteen white spots. It is one of 80 species of ladybirds found in Switzerland.
.
Unlike many of its better-known relatives, it typically lives in the shade of damp deciduous forests, particularly in the vicinity of beech trees.
I discovered this specimen resting on the leafstrewn forest floor.
.
Its delicate wing covers appear almost translucent, a rare sight that makes it unique among native beetles.
This species feeds primarily on fungal growths found on leaves—an unusual behavior for a ladybird.

Winter is just at the doorstep in the mountains of the Jura Foothills. That couple of Roedeer was just ready for the spring earlier this year, grazing peacefully in the quite forests covered with snow. ❄️🦌

🌿 One of the most striking birds I have ever witnessed.

These Splendid Starlings (Lamprotornis splendidus) gathered in the trees along the Nile in Jinja, Uganda as daylight faded. Their iridescent feathers shimmered in the last light, while their calls filled the evening air.

The sounds heard in this video are their original calls, recorded in that very moment.

This was the first time I had the opportunity to observe the Alpine ibex (Capra ibex) in such an environment and size of a group, adding the last rays of sunshine peeking through the thicker rain clouds made these moments seem almost surreal to me. I was so fascinated by the majestic appearance of these animals, and these images remained vividly in my mind for a long time that night. Their flexibility and adaptability to their surroundings give a glimpse into why the Alpine ibex are called the kings of the Alps. 🏔

One of many encounters i had with the Oriental Pied Hornbill (Anthracoceros albirostris) but definitely one of the most memorable one. That couple was feeding on the vivid red fruits of the Sealing Wax Palm. Hornbills are known as the “farmers of the forest” because they spread seeds across huge distances, helping tropical forests regenerate naturally. There are around 60 hornbill species worldwide, found across Africa and Asia, each playing an important role in their ecosystems.
