How awesome is this? I ordered an updated @noxgear_nation tracer from @movenationnz and I got a drawing on the back of a thank you card along with the order. For reference, they used a photo from my @runnersnz profile I did a while back on why I run. You can find my mug on their page if you want to know why. This was my first time meeting them, but I had been chatting with both Lee and Carly on Instagram for a while prior to this. Been a minute since I did a burger review. I saw this one a bit ago on the gram and knew I would get one. Just so happened my partner was able to get something off the menu with no removals. She got the Chicken Katsu Burger with jalapenos. She said it was a really good burger. I enjoyed my bite. Nice and crispy katsu that was still full of juices. I got the double kittayatsu burger. It is a blend of domestic beef including wagyu and seasoned with salt. In a whole wheat bun with cheddar cheese, sweet caramelized onions, and a spicy (no very) sauce. It is assembled, cut in half vertically and then put back on the flattop for it to crisp up from its own juices. Then served with potatoes and a drink if you opt for the set. I got the homemade lemonade. That was refreshing. It's molten hot when delivered and they give you a wax paper burger holder if you don't want to get your hands dirty. Not my style. So I picked it up burning my fingers and subsequently my mouth as it smelled so good. Kind of nice to eat half a burger at a time as it makes it easier to maneuver and not get so much dropping out the back. I finished the double and thought it was a remarkably light burger and I could easily eat another. Then I started to think about how it would work as a @wellyonaplate burger. Offer as a single or double and just keep them coming off the flattop halved. Keep sauces on the table if you want but it was still juicy after the 2nd cooking. An overnight in Nagano. Spent our time walking the river banks and seeing how popular mallet golf is. Saw 2 different areas built up on the river. Lots of old folks playing at the one. The other was next to the snake sign. Had a good salmon don set meal in Midori. Hotel was blah. On to the next train. #japan #japantravel #japantrip by @viewswhileriding

We started the day with a train ride from Joetsu to Itoigawa where we hired basic mamachari bikes to ride a bit of the Kubiki Bicycle and Walker Road, a converted rail trail of 32km that goes to Joetsu via the coast. We rode for 2hrs and did 22km on ill fitting 3 speed bikes. Passed a big group of elderly walkers. First coming up behind them and trying to get their attention was difficult even with bells. Coming back they were quick to move to the side and say welcome back. Then it was back to the station to grab a Shinkansen to Kurobe and then a different line which was a one man train operation to Unazuki-Onsen to grab the scenic train through the Kurobe Gorge. We took that train for an ass numbing hour to Kanetsuri. Where we did a short walk to a hot spring in the river where we took off our shoes and used it like a shincuzzi. We had about an hour to kill before heading back. I got a better seat on the way back so I could film/take some photos. Then we grabbed a limited express train back to Kurobe before getting another Shinkansen to Toyama. Beth has been nursing a sore knee so we decided to do less walking. #japan #japantrip #japantravel by @viewswhileriding

Haven't been to a Japanese Baseball game before but I know that they love it. I remember the dorm father watching the games, drinking something, and shouting at the tv. He tried to engage in baseball talks with my classmates but only a few spoke Japanese well enough. Otherwise nod, smile, and walk away. by @viewswhileriding

Niigata Waterfront lit up until December. Saw several groups of runners out for a night run. Only a few using any kind of light. Otherwise just another ninja runner. Both sides of the river seem to be a good place to run. by @viewswhileriding

Did an out and back for Mt Haguro today. Took the local bus out to the start which has a 5 storied pagoda, standing 29 meters tall with an unvarnished wood structure designed to blend in with the surrounding nature, this pagoda was designated as a National Treasure of Japan in 1966. There is also a little waterfall then it's on to the 2,446 stone steps to the top. We got up there and looked around for a good while. Then decided to head back to catch the bus instead of taking the bus from the top. So we descended the 2,446 stone steps. These are much like DOC steps in that they varied in size. Both in length and height. I would rather go up them then down them that's for sure. My knee handled this really well. I know that it is still a little tender to kneel on it or push in a very specific place so maybe the fracture is almost completely healed. #mthaguro #pagoda #japantravel #japan by @viewswhileriding

Out in Tsuruoka at an izakaya, たき肉居酒屋和っしょい, for dinner. The server was very chatty with us. Beth got a cup of sake as part of the service as well as the pickles and soup. Hirosaki Castle area was pretty cool. Too early for full autumn colours, they are starting and the apple harvest is in full swing. The city even has an apple pie pamphlet that listed like 40 places which was on the wall in the car rental place. Which was next to 16 ramen places that they had hand written with a description and distance from the store. So the apple is a pretty big deal in the region so it appears everywhere. Post box, check. Name sign, check. City clock, check. Man hole cover, check. Then we went out to the rice art, which is probably days from harvest. Then there is a little museum in the building that has photos from the previous years. You can really see how the design has gotten more intricate. Then at the end there is a wall that shows the different types used and how they layout the paddy for the design to be planted. I would love to see this several times a year to see how the rice grows in and the artwork matures. #japan #japanroadtrip #japantravel by @viewswhileriding
